Question about 1981 Chevrolet Corvette

2 Answers

Radio/Speakers I have a 1981 Corvette that is gorgeous. It is all original including the radio and the speakers. There is something wrong with all of them. I am pretty sure the speakers are blown. I went up to Best Buy to look at 4/6's for the dash and 6/9's for the rear. They told me that I would have to get a box for the 6/9 speakers because they do not make any that fit without the box...Any thoughts?

I checked all the wires and the connections seem to be good. I know I am getting power bc I can get 1 station on the radio and it barely comes through one of the back speakers. Im not sure what to do. Is it the radio, the speakers or both?

4x6's are sold everywhere dude....also...if replacing the speakers , down in the kick panels where your feet are( on the sides)...pull the side carpeting down/off and you'll find a nice space designed for bigger speakers ..it's the same body frame / section that the 79-80 used and CAME with speakers in there . Where are u ?...klassicvette@gmail.com

I doubt that they all blew, i would check the wires where the go into the radio to be sure the connection is good there first and also that you are getting power to the radio. If that dont help let me know and we will go deeper into the problem.

Why is there no sound through the speakers when I turn on cd/radio on 2005 corvette?

I would suspect the multi pin connector that plugs into the stereo that serves to connect to the speakers.

78 corvette, radio works but no sound, is this a antenna problem?

it could be antennae, you should hear a hiss in the speakers when you turn it up to halfway. if there is no hiss it is possible a broken connection to speakers or a blown fuse for the speakers in the car.

Radio and cd player only play out of left dash speaker. It seems to me that equalizer works ok,(only one speaker to check it with) but when I fade over to right side channel, nothing. The antenae is hooked...

I had this same problem. After reading other ideas and some trial and error, I finally got it. Most Caravans have an Infinity system (the speaker grill will say Infinity on it) ,which uses an amplifier to run the door and rear speakers. I had to ground the clip wire that was originally attatched to the strap ground on the factory installed radio. Then I also had to hook the wire on the new radio for power antenae (blue and white on my unit) to a blue wire on my new harness. This wire came from the last wire of 7 wire harness that had the other 6 wires for speakers. The original wire appeared to be green/red on my vehicle. After I connected both, the speakers cameon and sound great again.

See if you get power from the gray wire. Use a 12 volt bulb, or a multimeter.

Radio

What system do you have? The Delco Bose system has amps in the speakers. If they're out, you get no sound. You may have power out of thge receiver to the amp, but none from the amp to the speaker. I have two speakers/amps that went out on me.
