It is probably your key. Your key has a resistor pellet and that might have worn down enough to change the resistance and cause your problem. There are 11 different key resistances for this car, when I ordered my extra keys. Hope this helps.

Go around the car to the passenger side and insert the rounded door key in the door and an lock and then unlock it with the key. This should disable the anti-theft system. This also will shut off the horn blowing when the alarm is tripped. This works on all older Cadlillacs. Hope this helps.
Almost always the key is not at fault. I know for sure heat changes the resistance of the key but it does not happen as a usual thing you would have to apply physical heat. Contact me at email@example.com
Subject 1996 cadillac sts wont start I am confident I can be of your assistance.
the wire that goes to the ignition to the anti theft device is probably broken if you call a good locksmith they can go in through the steering column and fix it same thing happened to my 95 eldorado apparently cadillac designed the anti theft system to coincide with the ignition and is connected to the ignition with two wires that turn as the key is turned the wires twist and eventually they wear out
