Question about 1991 Ford F150

2 Answers

The ignition in my 1991 Ford F150 is broken. I have been using my Viper remote starter for the past few weeks to start the vehicle, but that died on me last night. I just need to start the thing so I can get it home. I can turn the key forward to get power, and it will run after started, it just doesn't kick over the starter. How can I send some power to the starter to fire it up? there is a bypass button for the Viper system so I shouldn't have to worry about that. Thanks Eric

Turn the switch on and touch the two big prongs on the silinoid at the same time with a screwdriver. note, it is under the hood on the fire wall. should be close to the battery with the positive cable running to it. it will fire right up. freddy81driver@yahoo.com

You have to arc across the main power to the starter to the main power of the silenoid. when you made contact it will spark but you should be fine. Hope this helps you

I recently had a problem with my '91 F150. It had started fine. Then, after I cleaned it some, it died and wouldn't start again. I think the ignition control module got wet on mine. If you are not getting enough fire, you might want to take the ignition control module off the side of the distributor and take it to Autozone/Advance or the like and get it tested. (You can get enough fire to turn the starter and it still not be enough. You'll need to take a plug wire off and see how hot it is when you turn it over.) The ignition control module is held in place by two screws that you can remove with a 7/32 socket if you have one small enough to fit. (Make sure they test it a few times (until it gets hot.) A bad one may test fine at first.) If it tests fine, you might want to buy a coil. For more detail about the ignition control module, see: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080506033632AAUGhGf I don't know if your starter is turning over or not. If it is not, you might need a starter or solenoid. If you jump the solenoid and the starter turns, you probably need a solenoid. If not, you probably need a new/rebuilt starter (and maybe a solenoid, too.) I hope this helps! Peace and blessings!!!

Check all wires and switch used to wire the push button ignition. Make sure none have melted due to the stress from hard starting in cold weather. If a thick enough guage of wire was not used it will get hot and could melt.

My 1991 ford f150 dies after 20 minutes and wont start again for another 20

Could be a bad coil. Sometimes when a 'bad' coil heats up it will fail to work properly. When it fails and shuts the vehicle off, this gives it time to cool back down and resume proper operation. Does it run at normal highway speed during that 20 minutes? If not then it could be a clogged fuel filter. A clogged fuel filter will let the vehicle run at idle but will starve the engine at higher rpm's.

Please Help ME by Remembering to RATE ME Thank you Vrey Much !!!

This vehicle does not use an external fuel tank switching valve. A supply check valve in the fuel pump assembly opens when the outlet pressure from the energized fuel pump exceeds the opposing check valve spring force.

Sounds like you have a bad connection on the remote start. Check all connections for it. Remote starts are helpful, but also harmful. More times then none, they will tear up your starter.
