Corolla serpentine belt

I have a toyota corrola, I need to change the serpentine belt. I know where the idler pulley is and it looks like a small piston that holds it in place. My question is do I loosen the small piston nut or the 19mm nut and which way does it turn Clockwise or counter clockwise?

Actually niether one. there is what looks like a nut that is built onto that piece ( 18mm or 19mm size ) put a socket and rachet on it and pull it towards the front of the car.

I'm thinking 19mm is in center of pulley, which you loosen just enough for it to slide, then use other to tighten or loosen tension. Clockwise will draw pulley closer to adjustment nut, counterclockwise, away from it. ? Is it not that type of set-up?

It is probably the tensioner pulley that's gone bad. It can be replaced separately, if you can purchase the pulley separately. As to how to go about changing it in such a small space, it's definitely possible, with the right type of tools. That's why mechanics have so many different shapes and lengths of the same size tools.

I have a 06 toyota corrola and i need to changed the serpentine belt what tool am i going to need?

Use a 19mm box end wrench and twist at the tensioner pulley to loosen the belt, then just pull it out and replace it with the new belt. You shouldn't need any SST (special service tool). To check the fig please click on the link below:--- --------------- Look closely on the front of the engine there is the tensioner with a pulley on it, in order to remove the belt the tensioner has to be depressed with a 19mm prybar and socket, when the tensioner is depressed the belt can be taken off all the pulleys, before removing the belt draw a diagram of the belt location around all the pulleys otherwise you may have a problem getting the belt installed correctly. Thanks. keep updated for any more can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

You have several pulleys in the drive system, you have already noticed that one is altenator, power steering. There is one for the water pump and there should be at least two more, one on an arm called the tensioner pulley bolted with one bolt through the middle, the other is mounted with one bolt through the middle called the idler pulley, one swings and the other does not. Should come off by removing the center bolt. Remember the belt routing, so you can install the new belt. Hope this helps, let me know.

Replaciing serpentine belt on 2006 Toyota Corolla

You'll have to remove the engine cover under the bottom so you can position the new belt on the pulleys properly. Get a wrench or tensioner tool and turn the tensioner clockwise to relax the drive belt. Don't apply excessive force.

It's hard to draw a picture with words, but looking at the engine from the passenger side of the car, there are basically two top pulleys, two middle, and two bottom. The drive belt goes around the outside of the two top and two bottom, and on the inside of the two middle.
