Dodge dakota vacume problem

I have a 1998 dodge dakota 4x4 3.9 litre.Truck runs good but engin light comes on.Code reads p1494 evap pump leak detected.Had it in the shop.Canged evap pump, gas tank cover, checked hoses, and wiring.Well never checked wiring through out.
Would appreciate a solution as to what the problem may be.Perhaps someone has run into this problem and solved. If so could you share it with me.Even an idea what the problem may be.i HAVE TALKED TO A DODGE TECH. AND HE NOT SURE WHAT THE PROBLEM MAY BE AFTER ALL THAT WE HAVE DONE.

THANK YOU:MIKE

You need a diagnostic box to tell you what the problem is.......if it is a evap leak,it could be anywhere, the hoses, the gas tank seal,a cracked hose.If you can go to a dealer they might have a smoke machine, they watch to see where white smoke is escaping from.Which is impossible to tell other wise. Could even have over filled the gas tank, that would give you an engine light......

Only a dealer would have a smoke machine, we have one at our Plant that builds the Dodge Truck, but they are about expensive and as far as i know only a dealer would have one........with all the hoses, plastic parts, canister, the seal on top of the gas tank, the hose connection to the filler tube and any other hoses......they crack over time. I think i said before, over filling your gas tank can make the engine light go. One more thing, i think at pep Boys or Auto Zone, they have a code book......or the dealer should have the code book and the code would tell you what the problem is, like a vapor leak, but not where it is.........

Check engine light is on, and OT sensor code is P1494 was diagnosed.

P1494 - LEAK DETECTION PUMP SWITCH OR MECHANICAL FAULT . There is a service bulletin for certain years pertaining to this problem . Some cars will fill the vacuum line going to the LDP with oil , causing this dtc to trip . In most cases you can clear this and it won't come back-also, check your gas cap, it needs to seal the system, if it is loose or leaks, it can set this code.

P1494

The Dodge P1494 engine light code means Leak Detection Pump Switch or Mechanical Fault. A proper diagnosis must be done, you can't simply replace the LDP and expect that to fix the problem. It shouldn't hurt anything to keep driving it for a while until you can get it fixed.
There is a technical service bulletin that applies to your vehicle and it mentions that code specifically. I'm including it here for your information: TSB-18-01-00
SUBJECT: Misdiagnosed Leak Detection Pump Systems With DTC P1494, P0442, P0455, OR P0456.
MODELS: 1997 - 2000 (LH) Concorde/Intrepid/LHS/300M/Vision and others
DISCUSSION:
During evaporative system diagnosis, Leak Detection Pumps have mistakenly been replaced. A thorough inspection for pinched, kinked, or disconnected supply vacuum lines (as currently listed in the Powertrain Diagnostic Procedures) is a critical step in diagnosing DTC P1494 (LDP SW OR MECHANICAL FAULT). Additionally, the other evaporative leak faults (DTC P0442 - SMALL LEAK, P0455 - LARGE LEAK, and P0456 - VERY SMALL LEAK) should have the supply vacuum lines examined for pinches or kinks prior to any LDP component replacement. The supply vacuum lines should be checked from the engine compartment all the way to the fuel tank, including the LDP and purge system.

NOTE: VERIFY ALL RELATED SUPPLY VACUUM LINE ROUTINGS FOR PINCHES, KINKS, OR DISCONNECTION'S BEFORE REPLACING LDP SYSTEM COMPONENTS.

Hope helps (remember rated and comment this).

My check engine light came on 2003 dodge dakota quad cab awd engine code p0456

This code is normally caused by a loose gas cap or a bad EGR valve. It is the code for the evap system on your truck. You can go to autozone and they will clear the code for you if you can not do it yourself. You may need to replace the gas cap and or the EGR valve if the code comes back up, these are normally one time things due to the cap not being fully tightened.
