Hello Keith ! Since you are using Haynes Manual Book and you can not locate the component you are looking for, I do not know whether anyone can help you having the autodata program just getting in the system putting the vehicle details and go to components location and surely you will locate it. I believe the speed sensor should be on the automatic transmission.

Im doing a tune up on my 1987 dodge dakota le 3.9 L v6 .will the book said to connect a jumper wire between the idle contact button and a good ground. what the h.. is and idle contact button and where is...

The item you are looking for will be where the throttle cable is hooked up to the carb. It will be a round solenoid wiith a single wire connected to it. Just unplug the wire at the connector and reconnected it when yor idle speed is set to manf. specs.

Location of speed sensor for 1998 silverado

You need to know which one to replace. They are located on the front wheel bearing hub assembly on the backside, by the brake caliper. It is held in place by one screw and the wire just unplugs. Rocks damage these and they quit. Hope this helps.

Could be a wiring issue if you already replaced the speed sensor. I believe there are 2 speed sensors on that tranny though, and both are usaully replaced at the same time.
