Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

Car starts but immediately stall out

-15F temps...car wouldn't start - tried getting it jumped but it still wouldn't start - had it towed to a warm bay in a service station where it sat overnight. Car would then start easily but would immediately stall out every time. Is there a key code that needs to be reset or is this something in the fuel line...?

Why does my car get to its normal temp and cut off?

Does it immediately restart or is there an extended crank to start it back up? Is the check engine light on? If so, have the codes scanned to see if any problem areas have been found by the computer. A cold engine requires more fuel and as the engine warms up, fuel is trimmed back/reduced by the computer. You may have a vacuum leak causing the stall/dirty throttle plate/ or it could even be an electrical issue to/from a sensor

97 buick regal gs runs fine until warm then stalls and will start for more than a second. sometimes when i give it gas it will rev for another second then stall

When the engine warms up the engine computer goes into closed loop mode and relies primarily on the O2 sensors and the MAF sensor to calculate the correct fuel to air mixture - if one of the O2 sensors is fouled or the MAF sensor is not working properly, this can cause the problem.
Given the age of the car, I would also check the idle air control (IAC) and channels, the EGR valve and the throttle body for carbon buildup.

Sounds like your alternater, get a multimeter set it to volts start the car then check the battery is getting 14 or over volts from the alternater to the battery , if your getting less than that it's not putting enough volts back to the battery to run the car with good luck colin

88F250 4x4 5.8L FI 5 speed. A friend has this & the starter went out. I replaced it & the solenoid. No big deal right? I returned it & the next day he called me & told me that the...

Its a solenoid...it engages the bendix and truck starts...bendix should retract because power to it gets shut off by ignition switch going to "run".

Only way bendix would stay engaged or get a signal to keep turning ???
Bad contacts in ignition switch...maybe ??
Start relay in under hood power distribution panel has hot or welded contacts ?

I've gotta think about this one...hope this gives some help...

check intake manifold air temp sensor and engine coolant sensor...one may be out of range but not enough to turn on dash light. tests and specs can be found in chiltons or haynes, test is done with digital multi-meter.

2003 Chev Venture Start and Stall

First,
Did they change the coolant temp sensor?
The one that sends the engine temp to the computer, not the one for the dash temp gauge.
Next,
If the engine has a leaky fuel injector it will start great cold but have trouble starting when hot unless you let it sit for awhile to evaporate the leaked fuel which would be around 2 hours.
Try holding the throttle wide open when it fails to start when hot,if that helps start it quicker then it is most likely a leaking injector.
Also when/if it starts hot look for black smoke from the exhaust as it starts
