If your having trouble stopping, then NO, it is not safe to drive. Did this just start recently, or has it been getting to this gradually?

The only solution short of doing the repair yourself (not recommended unless you have someone with experience helping you )

You need to go to a mechanic and get it repaired. Check your paper etc for discounts etc. The garage should be able to give you an estimate on cost with no issue.

How to adjust parking brake on 1993 chevy lumina ?

  • Adjustments

  1. Apply service brake pedal three times with a force of approximately 175 lbs.

  2. Fully apply and release parking brake three times. Full application may require two pedal strokes.

  3. Raise and support vehicle, then mark relationship between wheel and axle flange.

  4. Check parking brake pedal assembly for full release as follows:

    1. Turn ignition switch to On position.

    2. If ``Brake\'\' lamp is illuminated, operate manual brake release and pull downward on front parking brake cable to remove slack from pedal assembly.

  1. Remove rear wheel and tire assemblies, then install two lug nuts to retain each rotor assembly.

  2. If two parking brake levers on both calipers are not against lever stops on caliper housings, check for binding in rear cables and/or loosen cables at adjuster until both left and right levers are against their stops.

  3. Tighten parking brake cable at adjuster until either the left or right lever begins to move off the stop, then loosen adjustment until lever moves back barely touching stop.

  4. Operate parking brake several times to check adjustments. A firm pedal feel should be obtained by pumping pedal two full strokes and rear wheels should not rotate forward when parking brake is fully applied.

  5. Install wheel and tire assemblies, aligning marks made in step 3.

97 chevy suburban k1500 brake lights work when barely touched then go off when pressed harder

Check your Brake Switch on the Back of your Brake Pedal, you have loose wires or your switch is not working properly

I have a 1996 Nissan Quest XE and am experiencing problems with the brake lights randomly staying on. For the most part, the brake lights turn off when I let go of the brake pedal but rather frequently...

Make sure that the wires to the brake switch are not getting pinched. If you press the brake and the problem goes away, then the problem has to be centered there in the brake pedal area. The other thing you can check is to make sure that the brake pedal springs back to normal location, if the spring is broken or worn out, then the whole weight of the pedal is going to lean on the switch, turning it on eventually. The brake pedal should barely touch the switch and not rest on the switch.(some brake switches may be different and may not be push button). Either way, make sure that brake pedal is coming up all the way.

Brakes barley work, when i press the pedal down they work with about 5% efficiency. I can barely stop. It began just like that. Like a drop of a dime, one day they work, the next they dont.

If one time the pedal if firm and stops next time pedal sinks to floor no stop replace master cylinder. If pedal always low check fluid level if empty you have leak in brake system

2004 chevy venture will not shift from park. The engine is running and the brake pedal is pressed.

The blocking bracket might be jammed. Stop the engine, nudge the car a little and try again to move the lever without pressing the brake pedal.
If this works move the lever several times to loosen the bracket, leave it in neutral, press the brake pedal  and start the engine. Leave it running at idle for a while , till the oil heats up - 5-10 minutes , depending how cold is outside. Then repeat the lever movement till the efort becomes neglijable. If it doesn't or jams again take the car to the repair shop, it needs tinkering.

98 Chevy pickup brake lights just stopped working has 2 separate fuses both are fine One relay labeled brake it tests OK Stop light switch replaced Rest of the tail lights work fine What else could B?

have you tried to find the brake pedal switch? follow the brake pedal under the dash and there should be a switch that the brake pedal presses to activate the lights when you push it in . if everything else has been checked then I suspect that the switch has moved enough to not work or it may be just bad. let me know if this was it.... hope this works

Brakes not working

sounds like master cylinder is bad to me or a leak somewhere if you are having to add that much brake fluid

Brake pedal will not depress

Let the fluid out of the master cylinder or from a line. If the pedel  then goes down w/o the fluid, then the booster is working ok. Rebuild or replace the master cylinder.
