Hi. The system uses a sensor that positioned on the throttle body to control acceleration. The sensor is called the Throttle Body Position Sensor. That needs to be replaced. But its not as simple as just replacing it. The cars computer then needs to be calibrated to the new sensor. normally this is a simple task however in my experience with your ford it wasn't that simple. It needs to be calibrated using a Special diagnostic tool. This one isnt a DIY fix, you will need profession help. But the good news is its an easy fix and shouldnt take more than an hour and is cheap as well. Its just you need someone with the skill set,

But i should also mention that I didn't need to replace the sensors in most of the vehicles. The solution was to remove the sensor, I sprayed it out with WD40 and contact cleaner, let it dry out and then put it back in, When the vehicle started it idled roughly for a few minutes and then started working fine.

If you wish to attempt that yourself , locate the throttle body (look at where the acceleration cable connects and you will find it). locate the sensor, (only one with wires coming out of it on the throttle body), remove it, clean it, replace it.

XL. Why is 'reduce eng.' light on?

Reduced engine power is a problem with the electronic throttle control . You need to have a scan tool hooked up to read codes stored .

REDUCED ENGINE POWER: Refer to Powertrain Control Module Description in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L

Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the PCM detects a problem with the throttle actuator control (TAC) system the PCM enters one of the following Reduced Engine Power Modes:
• Acceleration Limiting--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited Throttle Mode--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle Default Mode--The control module will turn off the throttle actuator.
• Forced Idle Mode--The control module will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning throttle position, or by controlling fuel and spark if throttle is turned off.
- Ignore accelerator pedal input.
• Engine Shutdown Mode--The control module will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Where is the idle air control 2008 Uplander 3900

Your engine has an electronic throttle body. They don't use an idle air control valve. They control idle by cracking open the throttle plate electronically. If you have idle problems, chances are you've got carbon buildup around the throttle plate. Here's how to clean it. http://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/clean-an-electronic-throttle-body

08 Navigator wrench light cuts on I can cut the truck off on the side of the road cut it back on and it resets and I'm fine possibly for a few hours or maybe even a few days driving me crazy

This has to do with the electronic throttle control system . Position sensors in the gas pedal or the throttle body. Light lit , has code's set . Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), or Throttle Actuator Control (TAC), is replacing the throttle linkage on more and more late model vehicles. The mechanical linkage or cable between the accelerator pedal and throttle body has been replaced with a gas pedal position sensor and an electronically-operated throttle.

Stalls intermittently, wrench icon lights up under tach.

Problem with the electronic throttle control .
It should be noted that the ETC system includes a wrench light on the instrument cluster that illuminates when a fault is detected. Faults are also accompanied by DTCS and the "Check Engine Soon" light. Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a reputable ASE certified repair shop .
Overview The Generation II (Gen II) Torque Based Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) is a hardware and software strategy that delivers a transmission output shaft torque (via throttle angle) based on driver demand (pedal position). It utilizes an electronic throttle body, the PCM and a accelerator pedal assembly to control throttle opening and engine torque. The ETC system basically replaces the standard cable operated accelerator pedal, idle air control (IAC) motor, 3-wire throttle position sensor (TPS) and mechanical throttle body .

How can I replace the accelerator pedal assembly?

It's easy ! Disconnect the electrical connector , un bolt it .
Removal Procedure
Notice: Handle the electronic throttle control components carefully. Use cleanliness in order to prevent damage. Do not drop the electronic throttle control components. Do not roughly handle the electronic throttle control components. Do not immerse the electronic throttle control components in cleaning solvents of any type.
Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) retainer. Disconnect the accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor electrical connector. Reposition the carpet to access the lower nut.
Remove the accelerator pedal nuts. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly.

I have a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria the wrench light came on and the car slows down. Can you tell me what should be. Thank you

Torque Based Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) -It should be noted that the ETC system includes a warning indicator (wrench light) on the instrument cluster that illuminates when a fault is detected. Faults are accompanied by DTCs and may also illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL).

WHAT MEANS WHEN "ETC POWER"IS ON?

seems something wrong with the Electronic throttle control (ETC) which is an automobile technology that electronically "connects" the accelerator pedal to the throttle, replacing a mechanical linkage
There is no mechanical linkage between the accelerator pedal and the throttle valve with electronic throttle control. Instead, the position of the throttle valve (i.e., the amount of air in the engine) is fully controlled by the ETC software via the electric motor.
- you better have the ETC immediately serviced by an approved Toyota-shop

The reduced engine power light is on in my 2005 Chevy Cobalt. In addition, it's sounds as though it's barely running. Any idea what it can be? The check engine light is on also, however I addressed...

The check engine light being on now is a different problem , Have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes checked ,will have something to do with electronic throttle control . That is what reduced engine power is about . It's in a reduced power mode.
Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Do you know what electronic throttle control is ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) System Description

The throttle actuator control (TAC) system delivers improved throttle response and greater reliability and eliminates the need for mechanical cable. The TAC system performs the following functions:
• Accelerator pedal position sensing
• Throttle positioning to meet driver and engine demands
• Throttle position sensing
• Internal diagnostics
• Cruise control functions
• Manage TAC electrical power consumption
The TAC system includes the following components:
• The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensors
• The throttle body assembly
• The engine control module (ECM)

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .
