Most of the time mechanics use a scanner as the programs are (garded) by the vehical manufactures OTC , Snap-on tools. You want a unit that will see the data stream not just retreive and reset codes. Lap-top programs can be shopped for on the internet but the dianostic machaines (scanners) have trobleshooting and different dianostic cables and you may decide that if your going to make this kind of investment in tools them you had better be ready to make a living at it. Alot of stops don't have a laptop program because of the casts ( most dealers have a manufactures interface ) Until there is somekind of breakthough the cast is too high and the updates can be higher

Try checking the computer. Some of them were located behind the glove box. If you can open it, look at the computer chips. If one is burnt you will see it.

Is the car locking system programed into the key or engine software? I had my key socket exchanged recently, after a while I had a message that "immobilizer failed check the manual". The car...

key programming is seperate on older vehicles with a seperate transponder and transponder reader but integrated on newer models ,return car to garage and ask them to look at it again but if it was a software upgrade on the computer then their are new laws within the EEC regarding the self locking of cars and some member countries have been lobying against it and want it removed from cars as its dangerous in a accident ,so i honestly couldnt say as to weither this vehicle was re-programmed to current europeon norms, personally after getting burnt trying to get some kids out of a locked car in a accident and watch them burn to death as the gas tank went up and i couldnt get close enough with anything in my hand to smash the window glass iam in favour or removing self locking doors

I have recently changed the cluster on my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer but it's asking me for a code, how can i find that code and how do i input it in order to get the gauges working?

Hello and welcome. the dash cluster has a internal processor just like a home computer. the cluster has to be programmed with software for it to function correctly. programming requires a GM tech 2 scan tool, a service programming system and access to GM software. any GM dealer can program the cluster, it will cost between $50.00 and $100.00 to have it programmed

2004 chevy cavaliar 2.2liter engine turns over but wont start. Im looking for timing belt placement.

Hello chriso201: My name is Roger and I can answer this question. The Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 engine does not have a timing belt. This engine uses a timing chain. Check the compression if you have less then 100 psi on the cylinders I would think timing chain. Any thing over 100 the chain should be ok. I would prefer to see above 150 psi. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
