Re: corroded batteries in mag-lite flashlight
The best way to fix your problem is to remove the light bulb and every thing with it on the light end of your light then you should be able to push the old batteries through the lights casing.(assuming you have unscrewed the cover off of the light) DO NOT DRILL IT the battery acid is very corrosive and you don't need any more of it out of them than has already leaked. thanks for choosing FIX YA!

Hi Alicia with the Grand Am...:) Can you start your Grand Am by jump starting from another car and battery? First check cable connections on the battery...if dirty or corroded (even broken) the connection will not support the cranking power and will not turn over the motor...also inspect the battery to see if the battery casing is swollen...this is a sign the battery cells are wearing, and a battery replacement is necessary...be sure to have your battery checked ( a free service at most auto parts stores) before you could be stranded...Hope this helps.
Yes this is a very common problem on Isuzu's the EGR was most likely Ok. It's the passage that's clogged, good news is it costs nothing to fix, straighten out a clothes hanger, take the air tube right behind the throttle body and unbolt the throttle body. slide it out of the way and look inside engine with flashlight and you will seethe tube clogged with carbon. Now, use throttle body spray cleaner and spray into tube while clening it out with a hanger as well, it's usually the last 1/4" that's clogged. 85% of the time the tube is clogged causing a po 401. Only 15% the EGR valve is bad. have fun and happy motoring!!!!!!!
What this eliminated here from your list of problems is the brake light switch - if that failed, all 3 brake lites would be ON all the time, or OFF all the time. Since your 3rd lite works, the problem is in wiring from the one lite (that doesnt work) to the other. The wire to both nonfunctional lites will come from one lite to the other (you must remove the plastic trunk panels and trace the wires). The terminal lite will have just 2 wires (its not the problem). The problem will be in the lite that's been daisy-chained to the other light (the one with 4 wires (2 in, 2 out to the other lite)).
Check the suspected light socket and wires for old repairs that have corroded/fallen off (dont laugh - I've seen it), and general corrosion (the usual culprit). Whatever you find, replacing the sockets for the lite bulbs costs just a few dollars at the parts stores --- if you cant solder wires, use crimp unions (or small wire nuts) and E-tape over them to keep out the weather. The pros will solder (the wires) and heat-shrink the connections to the new sockets. Heat shrink is a type of tubing that shrinks under heat of a heat gun and when properly done, keeps out the moisture.
The armature which is the shaft with the windings inside the starter has swollen up from age and heat. Upon cooling down in a few hours the armature will run freely again. When hot the metal housing the windings wrap though is the part that expands. From age and heat metal gets weaker, & much weaker as days goes by. You can simply replace the starter or if your mechanicly inclines remove the armature and install it is a lathe or a drill press and file it down. Do not file on the windings or it will short out. I suggest to purchase a rebuilt starter instead for the fields are magnets which get weak from heat as well
Is the battery new or just charged. the battery could be the problem. Check the cables for corrosion or loose connections. The cables can corrode inside the insulation near the battery this can be seen by swollen cables.
SOUND LIKE WEAK BATTERY. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE.IT SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS.IF NOT CHARGE BATTERY OR REPLACE IT. IF BATTERY GOOD.YOUR BATTERY CABLES IS CORRODED OR WORN OUT.OR THE STARTER MOTOR IS BAD.REMINDER DUE TO LOCK OUT FEATURES.BESURE TO TURN OFF RADIO BEFORE REMOVING BATTERY CABLES.OR YOU WILL LOSE CODE TO PLAY RADIO.
