This post is about a month old but maybe someone else will see it and it will help them. For this particular type of vehicle I would recommend NGK plugs (available at most parts places) NAPA has the Belden Maxx spark plug wires which work great. Make sure if you are doing this yourself that the plugs are properly gapped, even if they say they are pre-gapped from the factory check it and do it yourself if needed. As far as the coil if you are talking about what is refered to as coil pack(s) then re-doing the plugs and going with new plug wires should solve your problem. Generally if the plugs or wires are bad they can cause the coil pack(s) to go bad as well

2001 buick century P0304 step on gas engine light starts flashing

P0304 is engine misfire #4 cylinder Several things can cause a misfire #1 electrical which you have covered #2 Mechanical Test engine compression is should be around 150 cranking and 120 running . internal valve train components can cause bad compression and the valves then self. #3 fuel injector can be the cause suggest swapping with a know good cylinder and see if misfire follows injector.

2001 ford escape rough idle

since these are coil over plug, wires are out of the question, but not the coils. Although on this model, it would hard to test out since u need to remove the intake to get to the coils. But if it\'s been running like that a while, you should probably have a check engine with a code stating a cylinder misfire. If so, check if it\'s a specific cylinder, or a random cylinder misfire. If it\'s specific, you can swap 2 coils for one another and see if the misfire changes cylinder. if so, then you will know which coil is shot. If it\'s specific but changing the coils for one another doesnt change the cylinder misfiring, then the injectors are probably problematic. You can test that theory in the same way you did with the coils, but be sure to empty the pressure in the injection line before taking an injector out, or else you\'ll have a huge mess on your hands. If it\'s random misfire, then that will be a bit harder to pinpoint. You\'ll need to check for air leaks due to damaged/worn gaskets or vacuum hoses, check for fuel leaks from the injectors due to bad o-rings. If all else fails, just write back with what you\'ve tested and i\'ll try to help you find the problem.

Engine light flashing whole car shakes and motor sounds like a helacopter..... tested it and it said spark plug 4 misfired........... replaced all 4 spark plugs and it's still reading as a misfired spark...

Sounds like it's either a coil pack or an injector to me, try switching the number four coil pack with any of the other coil packs if the miss follows the coil pack you need to replace that coil pack. if not it's either a fuel injector or a mechanical problem inside the motor, I would rent noid lights from a local auto parts store and look for injector pulse in the cylinder with a misfire, if the noid light is flashing it may be better to leave it to a professional as it is likely internal engine damage. hope that helps. chris

cylinder 4 is misfiring this is the most common falut. do a compression test and get the timing checked. they might tell you somthing along the lines of the coil needs to be replaced or plugs and cords.

I somewhat agree with other solutions on this page. I agree that what you are describing is a severe misfire, however there are MANY possible causes for a severe misfire other than just the spark plugs...I recommend diagnosing the CAUSE of the misfire before spending any money "GUESSING" and replacing a bunch of parts.

Also, a code P0300 is a "RANDOM MISFIRE" code which indicates that there is definately more than one cylinder misfiring. Your computer MAY display this code, however, a SINGLE cylinder misfire can also cause a loss of power and the check engine light to flash.
You may just have something like a bad coil on one cylinder that needs to be replaced. This is why PROPER diagnosis is recommended.

You have an engine misfire....unless you have expertise in this area you need to see your local shop as you will damage your catalytic converter if you continue to drive. An OBD II scan tool will id the cylinder to help but knowledge here is key!!
