Question about 2002 Pontiac Sunfire

2 Answers

No headlights 2002 sunfire. No headlights or daytime running lights. The service light did come on a couple days ago and I beleive now this is why. I do have high beams only and the foglamps. Does the relay control all lights and could this be the problem. Can one bulb blow and affect the other side?

I actually have the opposite problem, my headlights won't turn off. I have to remove the fuses to get the lights to turn off. I did have this specific problem about 3 years ago when the lights wouldn't turn on. I have paid a mechanic (3 different ones actually) to get this fixed to no avail. They have replaced the wiring harness, all of the wires in the front end, etc. The wires were corroded. It works for about 2-3 months then breaks again. I think it maybe a moisture problem.

I have the same problem with my 2005. Low power for daylight on low beams stays on even at night. "Headlight" warning light on dashboard that shows the DHR is active stays on all the time. If I manually shift the headlight dimmer switch (the turn signal arm) then the low beans will light up with full intensity and dashlight goes off. DHR relay works and no fuses are blown, no warning codes are present. Low beam headlamps come on in daylight when put in gear and go off when put in park.

Is there a sensor for "light" to turn system on and off be the culprit? Where is it?

A bad headlight switch is a common problem with these cars. All of the power for the lights goes though this switch. You can try wiggeling the switch with the lights on, if they flash off and on as you move the switch the switch could be the problem.

Ok I have solved the problem with the no headlights and no power to the wipers. I had enough with all the post on the internet to the effect of maybe it's this or maybe it's that? Well after careful reviews and going over the blueprints and wire diagrams I have found the issue on all these problems for no headlights and no wiper blades. The GROUND WIRE IS THE PROBLEM. There are two wires that come from the light switch and these two wires connect to a third wire that supplies ground to the Wiper Motor. The very easy fix to this is to take the two grounds from the plug on the light switch. You will need to remove the three bottom screws from the steering housing and counter twist the tilt steering arm to remove it. After this take the first wire to the left (Black/White Strip) and the second to the right (Black) and add a clip on wire connector. Join the two together and ground them to a Grounding source. This allows the ground to be routed to another source and you wont need to find the broken ground. After this you will have everything working 100%. I just did this to my daughters car and it is now perfect. I have a picture to show wire harness. This job took me 20 minutes and no HIGH Labor cost. My daytime running lights work, high beams will come on but switch wont stay on, have to hold it. Low beams do not work and daytime running light dash indicator stays on all the time. Is it a relay or...

if you have to hold the switch so the high beams stay on then that indicates a bad/worn switch, you could have 2 problems the day time running light relay may have a problem with it.i would first replace the headlight switch at the base of the steering colume as by the info you supply its not changing to the high beam side without holding the switch in position.

I need to know why the daytime running lites won't come on when I put my 2000 Sunfire in drive they blink 3 times and service lite turns on Relay or microprocessor?

The daytime running light module is built into the instrument cluster of your car and if all the lights work normally with the headlight switch then you need to replace the dash[instrument cluster].A dealer will need to program it whether it is new or used,so plan for that as well.

Was the dodge caravan 2002 equipped with daytime running lights?

You can tell by looking at the headlight switch. Without daytime running lights, the switch only has 3 positions, "Off","park" and "headlights" with daytime there is a fourth position to use or not to use the daytime lights.
