Disappearing antifreeze my '97 grand caravan with 3.3L is consuming coolant. I periodically have to top off the reservoir. It has been doing this for a couple of years and always really slow until lately. I have to top it off more often now. What are the possible causes of this? thank you, mark

Do not for any reason use stop leak that is the worst thing you can do for your van.it stops up heater cores, blockes hoses, and stops up the coils in your radiater. you will need to replace the head gaskets

Both if so equipped (has a radiator cap). First top off radiator, then run to operating temp and add to reservoir until at the proper level. Test drive several miles, recheck reservoir.

How many gallons of antifreeze does it take to fill a 97 dodge grand caravan le 3.3 v6

The cooling system capacity is listed as 10.6 U S quarts. The coolant should be mixed at a 50/50 ratio...half water and half coolant. I hope this helps.

How do I add refridgerant to my 2000 corolla

Check this procedure to add and check Coolant level...

Warning: Do not attempt to remove the radiator pressure cap or expansion tank cap when the engine is hot, as there is a very great risk of scalding. Do not leave open containers of coolant about, as it is poisonous.

Car Care
• With a sealed-type cooling system, adding coolant should not be necessary on a regular basis. If frequent topping-up is required, it is likely there is a leak. Check the radiator, all hoses and joint faces for signs of staining or wetness, and rectify as necessary.

• It is important that antifreeze is used in the cooling system all year round, not just during the winter months. Don't top up with water alone, as the antifreeze will become diluted.

1. The coolant reservoir is located on the left-hand side of the engine compartment. The coolant level is visible through the reservoir.

2. If topping-up is necessary, wait until the engine is cold and remove
the cap from the reservoir. Add a mixture of water and antifreeze to the reservoir until the coolant is at the correct level. Refit the cap and tighten it securely.

Hope helps (rememnber rated this).

The heat light stays on even after i filled it

Do you mean coolant light when you say "heat" light? I assume you filled the coolant or antifreeze? If so, you need to check the reservoir as well as the radiator. Remove the cap when the engine is cold and fill it to the top with a fresh mixture of antifreeze and water.

Type of engine coolant for 2000 dodge grand caravan

Use a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. You can go to any auto parts place and purchase the pre-mixed 50/50 blend to put in the van. The next time you look in the coolant recovery jug on the van, you will see the color of antifreeze. (Do not purchase a pink antifreeze and mix it in with a green antifreeze) Stay with the same color you have in the van. Hope this will help you.

My coolant in the reservoir disappears

You need to fill up the radiator with antifreeze when the engine is cold. After filling the radiator, bleed the system with a little screw located near the thermostat. let all the air out . Do this while the car is in operating temperature. Wait till it cools off , then check the reservoir again. Fill it with antifreeze up to the line indicated on the reservoir.

Need diagram where bottom radiater hose attaches to engine where it appears to be leaking

This is how I like to do it. Make sure the car is parked with the front end at an upward angle. Drain the coolant from the petcock at the bottom of the radiator. Remove the upper and lower hoses at the radiator. Remove the thermostat housing, and the heater core hoses at the fire wall. Flush out the radiator by pouring fresh water into the overflow, and the hole where the thermostat was. Flush the heater core as best you can by pouring fresh water into the heater core hose connections.
Let all the water drain out, then button everything back up and replace the thermostat with a new one. Refill the rad and engine by filling the coolant reservoir with a mix of 50% water and 50% antifreeze, or buy the premixed stuff from the auto parts store. (Buy 4 jugs of premix or 2 of straight antifreeze)
Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature and the upper rad hose gets hot. Rev the engine a little to help get the air out of the cooling system. When the thermostat opens, the coolant level will drop in the reservoir, so top it up and replace the cap.
Check for leaks, and check the coolant level for the next few days, and check for leaks.
Dispose of the old coolant responsibly
