Question about 1994 Dodge Spirit

Fuel delivery problem upon start-up

Changed the fuel filter, as I was advised that this may be the issue, but no change. Vehicle (1994 Dodge Spirit 4 cyl 2.5L) acts as if it's not getting fuel upon start-up, (warm or cold the same) ignition turns over and over, and it is necessary to "pump" the gas pedal to get the engine to fire. This typically can take many tries, and several minutes. Also, it seems that there may be some sort of obstruction between the gas tank, and the gas cap, as when filling the tank, the pump backs up on itself, and gas splashes out of the car, making it necessary to pump VERY slowly. I would think that the fuel pump could not be the issue, as this would precent the car from EVER getting gas, and because once the car starts, it runs fine.

What? I just bought the car and it has done this since I have owned it (About 1 1/2 weeks) Depending on which issue you are wanting more info on.... obviously the problem with the gas backing up, occurs DURING a fill up, and I have no Idea when the starting problem began to occur. The vehicle has less than 76k on it, and it has a new timing belt, and related parts. Timing is set properly (had that checked) has new plugs, rotor, and cap, could probably use new wires. But the issue is not with the timing, the car runs beautifully AFTER it gets started, just takes an act of God to start! What about fuel pressure regulator?

It will start, but dies when I try to increase speed.

It should go without saying that you will need to include the YEAR, MAKE, and MODEL of your vehicle in order for a diagnosis to be suggested.

That being said, I suspect a fuel delivery issue. Have you changed the fuel filter lately?

1994 Ford Ranger Starts runs for 3-4 minutes then dies, changed ignition mod, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, checked vac hoses, totally lost!!!!!

As with any no-start or stall problem you will need to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition issue.
The high idle usually means you have a vac leak or a problem with the throttle body or idle air control valve. The control valve is how the computer controls the idle speed.
You'll need to watch the fuel system and spark to see which is being affected when the engine dies.
You might want to hook a test light up to the coil to see if it is loosing voltage for example.

Im assuming the fuel pump is working and inertia switch, fuel filter, and fuel pump relay are good, check the ignition switch, if its worn/broke and not making good enough contact.

If it starts & runs for a few seconds with gas down carb, obviously you have a fuel delivery problem, as in fuel filter plugged, fuel pump, or perhaps you got some bad gas recently?
