Question about 1992 Chevrolet Corvette

Looking for a good place to service 1992 corvette

Brought car to GM and they say I need a ecm. Part has been on order with GM for over 5 months and they give me no alternatives.

I have since found some ECM's from corvette salvage dealers, but I don't trust GM mechanuc's, would rather bring to a shop that specializes in vette repairs or high end cars.

Looking for a shop recommendaion in Massachusetts.

Thanks for your reply, but I am told that when changing the ecm you must also get the chip on your ignition key reprogrammed, lastly I don't want to start changing parts out without knowing if there are any other reprocusions ( like the above). So figure it's safer to bring to an expert.

Couple of things, no, the chip in the key has nothing to do with the ECM, it's all in the BCM (body control module) and VATS module (Vehicle anti-theft system) You do need to move your blue calibration chip over to the "new" ecm.

Second, while nothing is unheard of, I've been working on Vettes for 10 years and never replaced a computer in a 1992/1993 model. So, that might not be the issue.

1989 corvette camshaft sensor

Your 89 Corvette has a MEMCAL inserted in the Computer (ECM). Since the ECM used in your corvette is also found in several other GM cars the MEMCAL has the Program SPecific for that body style.

On the MEMCAL for the 89 there wis 3 Integrated Circuits (ICs) 2 are used when the car goes into Limp Home Mode. the 3rd is a EPROM (Erasible/Programable Read Only Memory). so basically to change the program you would need to use UV light and re-program the code into the EPROM.

1992 corvette no comunication between modules replaced ccm with rebuilt ecm checked out good replaced key and ignition but i cant get a vats signal so i can get the key chip. the starter does not ingadge...

I had a similar problem on my 92 LT1 and it turned out to be the opti-spark was bad not signaling the injectors to pulse, if your bypassing the VAT to turn it over then the injectors should fire as well, on the 92 the crank sensor is built into the opti-spark distributor as well, if it turns out to be the opti-spark spring for the MSD sealed and vacuum vented cap or you'll just be replacing the thing every six months, you can test the opti up were it runs into the coil, I dont remeber the exact proceedor but it is on line,

The 'service engine soon' light is on on my 1992 corvette - what could be the reason/s ?

The ECM had detected and issue with the engine management system. Your going to have to get it scanned to retrieve the DTC codes to address the issue. You can go to Auto Zone since they scan free of charge or you can retrieve the code's your self. Here is a link that should help you retrieve the codes and help you understand what the issue's are so you can address them to get your car running 100%. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to help you get your car running 100% again. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/

Need to remove ECM out of my 1985 Corvette

well your in luck i just removed mine today lol. there are 5 1/4 inch screws on the bottom side of the dash on the passenger side of the car remove them pull the plastic cover down and disconnect the light mounted on the piecce you just removed next make sure your battery is disconnected cause it may fry it if power is connected. Next you will need a 10mm look straight up you will see the box it is aluminum with 2 wire harness attached. There is a metal clip holding it attached pull it back and un hook the harness then it will slide right out.
