Every few days the car jus seems like there is no spark at all
Than all of sudden it starts no problem and runs fine! My friend puts this dyalis machine on and reads P1870..he says its the CRANK SENSOR! Whats your opinion? If you agree where is it located on the block? Also the machine says TRANS COMPONENT SLIPPING! its a 1996 bonneville 3.8 litre super charged...thanks

If you like go ahead and let someone sell and replace your transmission
but here is my suggestion! Check around and see if you can find a minor
vacuum leak! This can simply be the big round hose that goes from the
fuel injection to the power brake hub! This is normally a push in
connector which has about a 1/2 inch hose clamped on it! If there is
any kink or the connector is not in correctly a leak will occur and the
transmission will shift rough as though you will be thrown out of the
vehicle! Try unplugging this connector and plug it back in hard and
straight and maybe you will be lucky and fix your problem. If the
vacuum is correct your transmission will shift better than you have

sounds like you need to clean out the carb. or you have the wrong gap on the spark plugs. having to jump start it i would start with the spark plugs gap. gap open to much will take a bit of starting. and when engine is at running temp. it use less fuel and the spark plug gap gets bigger. until there is no spark or not a good one to keep engine running.
this may be a few things, the most common is a bad ignition coil, this looses spark and car dies, then after cranking a few times it will start to work again, the problem can also be a fuelpump doing the same thing, the best thing would be to check for spark when it dies but you would need someone to spin the engine while you were to see if the sparkplug wire was sparking, another common thing is the distributor itself or the cap, see this can go on and on without a good diagnoses you can throw parts at this car all day, it would be cheaper to have someone test it, they would need to drive it until it stalled and then do some quick testing before it started and this may take a few days because you said after a few times it will run fine,
There are three relays all grouped together on the firewall on the passengers side. All three are related to your situated. We can eliminate one of them because you stated that the fuel pump is operating fine. Now that leaves the relay for the ECM(engine control module) this tells the injectors, cold start and run, when and how much fuel to supply and also controls ignition timing and spark advance. The third controls the AC compressor. Now I've got to remind you that I started working on fuel injection systems the day they started failing here in the US around 1972.These were such vehicles as Mercedes, Saab and Volvo. I've worked on every configuration, TBI, MPI, diesel etc.etc. I may on occasion cross one fact with another or mispronounce certain aspect of a system however, These three injectors are where you want to concentrate your efforts. With some finnesse you can swap the harnesses from one to another. If your car runs fine and your AC suddenly does not, then you know that that relay is faulty. Do this until you get your answer. Best of luck my friend, Dana
