Change your MAF sensor unplugging it runs it in open loop and will run better if your MAF is going bad. I would not drive around with it un plugged. A smell of gas could be caused by a cylinder misfire doesnt burn the fuel but still pumps into exhaust and then burns in the ctalytic converter which can make it HOT! Also brns your cat and o2 sensors up

Unplugging the mass airflow sensor may be ok to do just to get you back home,,but it is not wise to leave it unplugged,,because your engine control unit cant decide just how rich or lean to make the fuel mixture without it.
A smell of gasoline is usualy a sign of this.

Mass aif flow sensor and fuel injection system cleaning

I have seen this happen when the ECM looses its ground. IT runs fine till you put it in gear and then the ECM takes over and the engine stalls because it is pulling ground THROUGH the sensors.

- Excessive Fuel Consumption
Possible causes - Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel

Hesitation when I step on the gas

The tps or throttle position sensor could be getting flaky, but without a code I don't know if this is the case.

The map sensor if equipped could be giving false manifold readings.

The mass air flow sensor could be bad if so equipped.

I'd be guessing without more data.

99 volkswagen beetle 2.0 engine problem

Cat is usually damaged from vehicle misfiring, Those codes you posted are a MAF, idle control, and 02 sensor codes. The MAF sensor could be reading incorectly causing the car to run rich or lean, and giving the 02 sensors bad readings, i would deffinetly look into the MASS Air Flow sensor, which is located on the intake tuping near the airbox

You can also try cleaning it with MAF sensor cleaner

I have a 2004 hyundai tiburon and everytime i start it the throttle is like stuck and just keeps going until it hits redline. i pulled the codes and it said throttle position sensor so i replaced it along...

In order for a fuel injected engine to ran way up to redline,it has to be a combination of

air
Clean Mass Air Flow senor and connector with CRC Mass Air Flow sensor or electrical part cleaner.

fuel,
Check fuel pressure at fuel rail

ECU

incorrect / grounded / damage wiring on the TPS.

Throttle cable linkage
Smooth throttle movement?

Carpet under the gas paddle (like Toyota?)

My best is a grounded and short TPS.
