Question about 1996 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

1996 Toyota Camry 2.2 - will not start from ignition switch

Background:
We pulled motor to replace rear crankshaft seal. everything went back fine. However with key on it powers up but will not crank in the start location. We power probed from behind the starter relay and can activate the starter that way. Checked all fuses and connections, check for crimped wires, check and rechecked all plug connections. The white wire behind the relay seems to be the one that is supposed to be powered up in the start postion to send juice to the starter side of the relay. Our wiring diagrams are not very good in order to truce this wire back the igination switch. THe car did start when it came in. Any help will be greatly apprecated.

1998 camry oil smells like fuel, 260,000 miles. out runs strong, Just replaced the valve gaskets, can anyone help me figure out what's wrong?

These engines do have chronic oil leaks onto the exhaust, hence the burning smell. When cam cover gaskets are replaced it is best to use the genuine Toyota parts, they seem to have some quality which lasts better.

Other places which leak are the distributor shaft o-ring seal, and crankshaft nose seal, behind the timing belt sprocket. These can be replaced. The crankshaft rear main seal will leak, but is expensive, so just leave it.

Having an oil leak at the bottom of my camry, not the oil pan gasket what else could it be.

There are three other area's that can leak, here they are in order of how often they occur
1.Engine Valve cover gasket(s) (2 if V6 engine), oil runs down the engine and drips off the pan.
2.Rear crankshaft seal leaking
3.Front crankshaft seal leaking. Oil is blown back by air pressure while driving and rips off of pan.

My toyota vienta 3VZ-FE 1996 - oil leak onto exhaust

Hi,

That engine will leak oil from

- cam cover gaskets (rear one drips on the exhaust)
- camshaft end seals
- distributor shaft o-ring (appears on top of transaxle housing)
- oil filter bracket to block o-ring seal (drips on front bank exhaust)
- crankshaft nose oil seal (have done with timing belt change)
- rear main seal (expensive, leave it be)

Toyota Camry 1994 No ignition think it may be alarm

disconnect the alarm system from under the dash.battery to starter direct will turn the engine over fine but ignition system still runs through your alarm system. It's also a theft prevent system so your car will not be stolen. The alarm went bad preventing your car from starting. That means putting the ignition wiring back to factory.

check you ignition components to see if they are worn or faulty, this is usually the cheapest part that can cause this problem since your tach runs off the ignition.check fuel filter before fuel pump as this could be clogged and also not as expensive as a pump or oxy sensor. a faulty oxy sensor will set a code.
