Question about 1998 Jeep Cherokee
After 2 years the proplem persists. It will go for sometime 1 week, 2 months ect running perfect, then it will miss and rev up and down at a stop. the only way that I can get up to speed is pump and floor board the gas pedal and it will smooth out after backfireing sometimes. I sometime have to turn key and crank for a few seconds then on the second try it cranks right. The problem will sometimes go on indefinetly until it decides to correct itself. It doesn't matter if it is hot, cold, dry,or wet. Mechanic does not know whats wrong. I decided to try to find the problem myself. Can anyome help? I love the jeep when it is running good.
Dont have the time right now to outline all the details, but I will bet that the timing chain is worn 4.0 engine?? Also I'd guess the problem started at about 160-170k miles.(how close am I???)
