Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

1 Answer

Oil Leak I have taken my 2001 Aurora in because of an oil leak repeatedly. It was using 4 qts. of oil every 3,000 miles between oil changes. The mechanic at the local Chevrolet dealer kept saying it wasn't an oil leak but something else. I asked if that were the case, then why was my oil always below level and the computer telling me to Change Oil Now!. Well, after several frustrating visits to the dealer, I wasn't leaving until they found and corrected the problem! (You can imagine what my driveway looks like.) They cleanned everything and found that it was the "oil sending sensor" directly in the engine block. Be persistent if you ever have the same problem! They finally fixed it!

My sons 01 Aurora kept saying low oil, but there was no leak and we had the oil changed the day before. After looking in the owners manual, this car takes 7 1/2 quarts of oil when you change the oil and put in a new oil filter. The mechanic claimed he put 5 quarts in and checked it but he couldn't of. Over a week and hundreds of miles later the oil hasn't dropped at all!

Hello: At the time your owners manual was printed the oil change recommendation was 7500 miles, BUT that was under ideal driving conditions. (NOBODY drives a car under those conditions) If tour car has a four cylinder engine I would recommend between 3,000 to 4,000 miles. I have a 2001 Saturn with 202000 miles, bought new, use Castrol 10W30 Castrol oil have changed it every 3000 miles my self and have records to prove it. The engine still does not use or leak any oil.

Yes there is. if it leaks, find out where. You may have engine damage from running the car out of oil. You say it leaks from the oil pump, same as before? was the oil pump replaced? Sounds like a pressure fed leak, so it should be easy to find.

if it's not going onto the ground, and it's not being burned, check the positive crankcase ventilation and the exhaust gas recirculation valves for oil seepage...also check your air filter, if its got oil on it replace the pcv valve.
