Ford Windstar 1996 Trouble Codes P0171, P0141, P0161, and P0174

I have a 1996 Ford Windstar, 128k miles, 3.8 engine. I am getting a total of 4 codes as follows: No. 1 - P0171 (freeze frame), System to Lean, Bank 1; No. 2- P0141, 02 Heater Circuit, Bank 1, Sensor 2; No. 3- P0161, 02 Heater Circuit, Bank 2, Sensor 2; and No. 4 - P0174, System to Lean. Could these 4 codes all be related to the same problem? If so, what could the possible solutions be? Also, where is the Bank 1, Sensor 2 and the Bank 2, Sensor 2 Oxygen Sensors located? Also, which set of cylinders is the Bank 1 set? Thanks

Thanks for the info. So, there must be four oxygen sensors on the vehicle. One up front on Bank 1 and 1 up front on bank 2. Then there is one on the catalytic converter and 1 (i.e., Sensor 2) on the exhaust pipe which is to the right (passenger side) of the catalytic converter. I have two more question if you will. First, what designation, number is assigned to the two oxygen sensors up front. Also, I thought all the exhaust fumes had to go thru the catalytic converter. That being the case how come the exhaust pipe with sensor 2 on appears to be bypassing the catalytic converter as it runs adjacent to the catalytic converter. Thanks

Mass Air Flow sensor. All four o2 sensor are not going to fail at once.
I went through this for weeks trying to figure it out. I had just replaced the MAF sensor about 8 months prior, so I thought it must be something else. After throwing new intake gaskets and o2 sensors and fuel pressure tests and compression tests and smoking the intake, I discovered that the MAF sensor had failed. Truck runs great to this day. BTW, NEVER EVER use MAF sensor cleaner from an aerosol can on a MAF sensor, and o2 sensors do not need to be cleaned, they live in soot every day and they like it that way. They usually outlive the vehicle except in cases of over-adding STP type cleaners and using bad gas. They should only be removed when your catalytic converters finally burn out. (My opinion)

Bank one is toward the front of the vehicle. Sounds like the heated oxygen sensors have gone bad. The Oxygen Sensors are located in the exhaust pipe and require a special socket to remove and replace.

I had all these codes come up and i dont know what they mean. Dont think its good. P1747,P0743,P0750,.P0755 ,P0760, P0765 P1451,P0133, P0135, P0141. P0153, P0155,P0161, P1409, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0171....

looks like most of you trouble is the "oxygen sensor". it in the exhaust pipe, about $25 PLUS. Changing it may very well help most of your other code problems, I would start there, it is a simple fix, you then need to clear all codes and see what comes up after replacement. You may come out very lucky.
P01747 is transmission pressure control solenoid P01451Lack of Response From Passive Anti-Theft System Module - Engine Disabled P0743Torque Converter Clutch System Electrical failure.
Do the Oxygen Sensor first as go from there.
Good luck

I have replaced the port seals, isolater bolts, cleaned the EGR ports, plugs and wires, and chanced the air filter. I was getting both 171 and 174 codes. Now after 60 miles or so, pulled the codes again...

P0171 is a lean fuel condition . The computer reflashed has nothing to do with it . Vacuum leak intake manifold probably . If both P0171 & P0174 were back could be fuel pump low flow or restricted fuel filter . or O2 sensor problem or mass airflow sensor. Suggest you take it to a qualified repair shop to have it diagnosed .

1996 ford windstar 3.8 codes say that cylinders 4 and 6 are misfiring, system too lean bank 1,egr flow insufficient. whats up?

Cylinder misfiring hapens when ignition coil is bad and bad spark plugs.
System to lean is usualy when fuel pump lose pressure or you have blown gasket on intake manifold. Check fuel pressure first.
When EGR flow is insufficient there is EGR valve, sensor and solenoid, could go bad., so you have multiple codes P0171, P0304,P0306, P0401

I have 2003 Ford Escape V6 I have to codes that read p0141 and p0161 and the car misfires I need help with this problem

P0141=O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0161=O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 2 Sensor 2,
the 141 code is a problem with the heated O2 sensor on the drivers side exhaust after the converter,
the 161 code is the same except it is on that passenger side exhaust after the converter.

Ford windstar check engine light comes on after stopping when starting to get moving again shows p0171 & p0174 codes why??

P0171 indicates a lean condition. The most common cause of this is a defective mass air flow sensor. Also check if any vacuum leaks. P0174 OBD-II Trouble Code

Technical Description

System Too Lean (Bank 2)

What does that mean?

Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust.

Note: This DTC is very similar to P0171, and in fact your vehicle may show both codes at the same time.

-----------

Thanks.
