I have a 1993 pontiac grand am 2.3 . The car was driving fine. I stopped the car and turned it off. When I started the car back up it was normal but when I put it into drive it wouldnt move and then I put it in reverse and it wouldnt move. I took it to a mechanic and he said its most likely the transmission pump. However, he couldnt tell me where it was located.

Because there is NO Transmission Pump! You need to #1 Find a NEW Mechanic #2 Have the Shifter Cable Checked. Sounds like that is your Problem.

Check mass air flow sensor many times just cleaning the two wires that stretch across the inside with a Q tip and carb cleaner will restore in gear idle. If not, do code tests to see if any faults are recorded.

provided you don't have a vacuum leak, (check all hoses for tightness and cracks with engine running) it's probably your idle air control valve or sensor.

Hello and yes this is a major noise. I would check your oil now right before you ever start the oil again. This noise may have been your engine locking up from really low oil levels and excessive heat from a lot of driving. If this is fine contact me again and we will address more problems if their is more. Thank You.
