I would tend to go with resistor even though it usually ends up with high only, when they start to act up. As long as motor wasn't showing signs of getting worn out prior to this.

I'd still check the thermostat. Or basically just replace it. Have you ever drained all the antifreeze and flushed the system? Good time to do both. If the hose's get real hot that doesn't really mean the thermostat open. Wouldn't they get hot even if the thermostat didnt open.? If the thermostat was stuck open you'd would have cold air and low temp gauge. Then maybe hit a pump or something and have the thermostat stick closed and have high temp. Maybe water pump. Check it when you have the belt off. Spin, pull & push the water pump pulley around. I'd replaced my water pump at about 110,000 on a '97 dodge Dakota. My 97 never had a very good heater. Always heated up more after driving. Idle never got it warmed up.

Vents only blow on HIGH on 2004 Highlander

You need to replace the heater blower motor resistor. It is located in the air tube between the motor and the center of the heater box, under the glovebox area.

I have a 91 ford van e150 i am having trouble with heat i replaced teh heater core last year and it worked fine then now it is only blowing 100 degeres and it wont clear teh window of ice it doesnt matter...

I can only think of two other things that could cause it not to get as hot as it should, Either there is a restriction in the heater control valve or the heater core is stopped up. If you drain your coolant and ran some radiator flush through it it might help. If I have help you please rate me... Thanks

I would suggest replacing the blower motor resistor. When this component fails the blower will only work on one spped or none. This is a very common issue with all automotive models
