Question about 1991 Chevrolet Cavalier

1991 cavalier speedo register the wrong speed and unstable

My 1991 chevy cavalier's speedometer reads the wrong speed whenever im driving. When I'm in a local rd running 35 mph, the speedometer sometimes reads zero but after about 15 minutes it goes up to 20 and becomes unstable (goes up and down) but im pretty sure it doesnt reach the right speed. Also when im on the highway running 65mph the speedometer only registers 50mph and again unstable. I tried changing the cluster but that did not solve the problem. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks so much!! PS. since the speedo registers the wrong speed, the odometer is getting affected by it.
Thanks again..

2000 chevy cavalier fuse problem and /or speedometer problem

Speedo problem, no fuse for that. It could be the speed sensor. It is located on the back side of the transmission, on the passenger side. Not to hard to get to.

I need to Know where the speedometer sensor is on a 1991 chevy cavalier Z24 3.1 mutiport with an Automatic transmission 2WD

The speed sensor for your 1991 Chevy Cavalier Z24 is located on the transmission just inboard of where the passenger side drive axle enters the trans-axle.

My speedometer does not work and I would like to fix it myself. I have a 1994 Chevy CK100

The speedometer is cable driven off the transmission. The first things to check are the cable and the gear that drives the cable on the transmission.

Chevy cavalier 2005 speedometer stuck not working

That Cluster will work But, You will have to get an Installation kit if you want the Tach to work. Everything else will hook up the Same. You have a Distribution Box (Fuse Box) Under the Hood on the Drivers Side, There is a Fuse in it for the Speedo. Inside the Cover to the Box is the Fuse Diagram or in the Back of the Owners Manual.

Chevy cavalier 2005 speedometer stuck not working

This is most likely not a speed sensor problem, I see this a lot on 03-05 Cavalier instrument clusters and it's always the same. It's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and it can be fixed. Check out this page for more about how to get it fixed - cavalier speedometer fix

Speedometer does not work properly. Since yesterday and a drive clean test the speedometer is wacky. The needle seems to be about 40Km above actual. When I turn the key of and park the car the speedometer...

The circuit board that controls the speedo has failed, this is the symtom of that failure a wacky speedo reading, sticking reading high and so on, they can be repaired by any GM authorized electronics repair center, don't go through the dealer for the repair, they will send it out to the repair station and then 2X the cost to u, get the name from them though and call them yourself.

If your odometer is working and your speedo needle doesnt indicate correctly then your problem is the stepper motor in the cluster. I have repaired a lot of instrument clusters....cost is 105.00
