Question about 1997 Honda Civic

Grinding sound near gear box on a 97 civic

I have a manual 97 Civic and when the RPM reaches around 2500, in most gears i hear a sort of light grinding noise. It doesn't happen all the time but it has been making me nervous. I was wondering if the transmision fluid is low or could there be another problem??

Thanks for your help

My 97 honda civic makes the same noise when it is idling with the clutch out. I push the clutch in and the noise goes away. This could not be the throwout bearing. It must be the transmission input bearing. The noise gets real loud at about 3,000 rpm. When you push the clutch in the input shaft to the transmission stops spinning. Are the bearings replacable in the transmission without tearing the whole thing down?

It would be more in the clutch systems than in the transmission. your clutch may be getting weak

I change my transmission in 1997 honda civic freio I change the cvt to a manual transmission andengine check light stay on what could cause that to happen

Check engine lights report faults in engine AND gear box(auto). If you have changed from an auto to manual gear box then the sensor system for the gearbox is recording a massive fault with the gearbox that you have to check out. Talk wit an accredited auto electrician as to how to neutralise the system so that the light only checks out the engine.

5th gear synchronizer shifter

sound to me like a basic sloppy shifter, did you inspect the shifter and all parts associated?
usually the synco dont stop shifts, only causes grinding
unless, it is shattered. (rare that)
it only matches speeds, so if cracked in half , you can shift by
double shifting , like racers and truckers did for years, "crash boxes"

Civic 92,auto gear box problem

There are no filters to change. If the fluid is brown or black in the transmission you should have it changed. If you have over or near 200k miles on your car you should consider getting a good used one with low miles, but should you call around and see if you can get a free inspection at a transmission shop first.

Auto Transmission problem

hi do the simple bits first check the fliud level in the box see if its a clear redish colour if any other colour you have a box problem second when was the last time you chaged the boxes oil and filter a blocked filter will cause your problem then the box itself first clutch could be slipping put the box in first gear chock your wheels up put the handbrake on put your foot on the brake pedal start the engine and rev with your other foot and see when the car stalls it should be around 2500 and 3000 revs if its higher than this the clutch is slipping on that gear after this you will need to take it for pressure testing yates210456

Sounds like the timing belt tensioner. I have that problem. Rattles at low rpm, goes away as you acceralerate. Looking to have timing belts changed and tensioners replaced.
