Question about 1999 GMC Suburban

Trasmission slippage My transmission on my 1999 Suburban will shift in the first gear, **** really hard into second gear and will not go any faster than 45 mph. After driving in the second gear for a few minutes, it will **** hard and switch back to the first gear. I also noticed that my transmission fluid started leaking. Please help me solve this problem.

How long have you owned it? Is it possible there is a shift kit installed for towing? Was there something that was done just before it started doing this? A tune up perhaps?

have a pressure test done on the transmission to check for internal failures . Have the bands/ clutch pack adjusted.

I have a 1999 chevrolet suburban and when it gets warmed up it shifts real hard but not all the time somedays it is really bad


sounds like the modulator valve on the transmission. get it checked or you may be buying a new transmission soon. it might be as simple as a vaccum leak

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado with automatic transmission. When the transmission is shifting from first to second gear it jerks really hard like a thrust when changing.


have it scanned, probably has a code 1870 (transmission component slipping)
means torgue converter is slipping beyond specs, actual casue is valve body is wore out causing pressure problems

This same thing happened to my daughter,s car, and it ended up being fixed with a transmission speed sensor. This sensor not only runs the speedometer, it helps tell the transmission when to shift too.

Transmission wont shift into 3rd gear.


I had this exact problem on my 2005 5.3L Suburban... It would shift into 1 and 2 and reverse, but not 3 and 4.

I took it into a transmission shop, and he said the 3-4 shift solenoid was burned up. Wanted 1500 to fix it. Far from home, so I have to pay it.
