My 2004 Chevy Clssic Malibu wont start. It cranks and tries but wont go. It sounds like its outta gas but i put some in last night so it has about a Quater tank in it. Someone jumped the battery and put some water in it but it still aint work. The radio and lights come on fine .I was told to put a blanket over the engine for a couple hours then try it again. What should i do.I hate to not know whats wrong with it i dont have money to get it towed and have someone guess at the problem.I am a single mother I need to know if its anything i can do PLEASE HELP!!!!

Thank you ALL.I am so much of a girl that I dont have a clue about many of the things you refered to. I have a mechanic coming to look soon, hopefully. It is hard to get someone out in thez temps. but i am trying so all of the info was helpful that way when they do get to diagnosing the issue i wont be suprised because everyone shared what they think is wrong. I tried this morning and its still not coming on.It really seemed like it was going to start after sitting overnight with a blanket over the engine but it still wouldnt catch.I have missed two days worth of work so this really is a bummer.WISH ONE OF U LIVED CLOSE!!!LOL!I will keep u posted.

your fuel pressure checked the injector rail this will most likley have to be done by a mechanic if you dont have a manual and a pressure gage.hope this is helpful

Could possibly be the fuel pump,,If it is,, it is going to cost a bit to replace it. Sorry!!
Either way,,you will need to get it into a warm garage to do some tests.

The test port for fuel press is under the hood on the top of the engine near the injectors in the fuel supply line that goes to each injector, it looks like a metal tire valve, u will need to borrow or buy a test guage to access it, about $20 from Kragen or Autozaone, they may loan u a guage, not sure.

2001 chevy malibu wont start after the car runs out of gas and we put more gas

It may take 3-4 times cranking for a few seconds,
with a 5 second pause between to get fuel up to the engine. Also may have sucked up
some dirt/debris into the fuel pump after running it dry. May want to change fuel filter.
you can try to have someone bang on the bottom of the tank while someone else
cranks engine. Sometimes this will free up a stuck fuel pump. good-day!!

I have a 2004 chevy malibu classic. car ran out of gas and stopped. put gas in and tried too restart the car. car wont start but you can smell gas and wants too start but wont.

Hi, you may have it flooded. Try holding the accelerator all the way down while cranking the engine to clear the gas out. Let us know if this doesn't work, and thanks for using FixYa.

My 2004 chevy malibu has gas but wont crank wont do nothing any help

make sure your battery is good. turn on your lights, if ok for a good minute or two, your battery is ok, but if nothing turns on you have a dead battery.

I was driving my car and it ran out of gas its a 98 chevy malibu so then i put gas in the car and now it wont start it'll it wascranking up but now it starts to crank up and doesnt crank up all the way...

You might want to have your fuel filter replaced. When you run a tank that low, the fuel pickup takes in debris and sediment on the bottom of the tank, which may be clogging the filter, preventing gas from flowing.

so you turn the key and the starter does nothing... i would suggest that you attempt to start it while someone hits the starter with a hammer... not that gently but don't break the starter either.

If it suddenly turns over you need a new starter. and right away because using a hammer only works a few times.

Incidentally it was minus 20 here last nite lol
