I have a 98 durango that did something similar... I accidentally overcharged the AC which caused an overload on the compressor when I turned on the air. I just left it that way and used open windows for AC in the summer. Well I forgot about the overcharge, when I used the heat when it started getting cold I started hearing a squeal. Most cars will run the AC compressor for a few seconds every 10 or 15 seconds to keep the oil and freon circulating through the winter to keep the seals from drying out. I just had the AC system evacuated and charged (the right way), this fixed my squeal prob with my heat..

You should check the condition of the belts. The belt tracks are porbably worn so sometimes they would tend to jump or slip. Check it out

Toyota Tercel belts are squealing

I have been having the same problem with the alternator belt squealing, most noticeably, when using the heater fan , accelerating, turning the headlights on. I have a 1997 Toyota Tercel CE 1.5L 4cyl with no A/C. I just tightened the belt tight enough that there is no give to the belt and it does not squeal anymore.

I also used a Goodyear Gatorback from Napa belt which seems to be nice and quiet when tight enough.

I have a 2003 Nissan Murano, and everytime i turn the heater on now, there is an earsplitting squealing noise that happens for about 15 seconds. It started just when the car was cold, but now it will come...

alternator/air comp. belt slipping.look for loose belt, worn cracked belt and also these are known for cracking tensioner pulley mounting bracket and causing tension loss on belt.without a lift would be pain and ultimately you wouldnt really save much trying todo yourself.

A loud squeal evrytime the unit sits for a couple

if you have to spay the belt to get it to stop then the belt is most likly streched or bad. take the belt off and turn all the free spinng pullys alt, power steering,a/c,ect if all spin good with no horible sounds then replace the belt , if any turn hard then this is what the problem is.but im betting it's the belt

My 1995 Dodge Durango has a squeal at the front of the engine. It only squeals after the engine is at temp and then only at idle. It will quiet down if I drive some distance but if I stop at a light it...

What engine?????? Take the belt off, the tensioner should have full travel and smooth, If its drags, its bad. Ck the pulleys, they shoul dspin easy without any noise, feel them as you turn them with your hand, if they feel rough, replace them. If the PS pulley isnt aligned, it will squeal.

1999 dodge durango 5.9 v8 loud squealing noise from under hood replaced tenison pulley, idler pulley, ac pulley/clutch assembley, and belt please help

You didn't mention the alternator, power steering pump, or water pump. In fact, any pulley other than the crankshaft one can have a bad bearing or dry seal. Remove the belt and spin each pulley while listening for any rough noise or squeal. If it was the crankshaft, it might be time to check the oil. Start the engine with the belt off to see if it does squeal. Make sure the noise isn't coming from the radiator fan(s).

Timing belt on 1996 mazda protege slips during startup

Hello, this to me sounds like your fan belt slipping (not timing belt). To adjust the fan belt you need to undo your bolt on the alternator, pull it tight onto the fan belt and while holding it tight do the bolt back up tightly. this will stop yoour fan belt from slipping. I hope this helps.

AC belt squeals under load.

The 1st thing I'd do is to get a spray bottle with water in it and spray the belt driving the compressor while the A/C is running and cycling on and off. If this quiets the squeal, it's probably too little belt tension. Check the belt driving the A/C compressor pump for sufficient tension. Do this by locating the longest part of the belt not touching a pulley. Depress the belt at the midpoint of this open span with moderate thumb pressure. It should not deflect more than about 1/2 inch. If it does deflect more, you'll need to increase the belt tension by putting more pressure on the belt route. Usually, there's some sort of bolt or machine screw on the compressor to do this. Increase the belt tension to the desired deflection. Warning - too much tension will cause premature failure of the compressor bearing!
No improvement to the squealing requires more help than I can provide you with.
