Question about 2002 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

2002 Nissan Altima maintenance schedule.

Although the owner's manual states all sorts of mileage intervals for various service, my '02 has 128,000mi. on it and runs like a top. Nothing outside of gas, oil, brakes, tires, and air filters, etc. I am sure it could use a tune-up, a tranny service and radiator flush. Are there any other key things I need to do other than those 3 main things? It has been a wonderful car and I want it to last for awhile yet. However, do not want to spend a ton of $$$ on things that are not necessary. Any input would be much appreciated.

My maintenance light on my prelude is Orange what could it be?

It's reminding you that you're coming up on a service interval. Match current mileage with owners manual recommended maintenance for said mileage.

Need to reset the button for the mileage the perform service keeps coming on

The shop service manual is rather vague on this subject.
It says that you must select "Service Interval" and once in the service interval display, the interval can be changed by pressing the "Step" button.
The "Reset (Yes/No)" display only becomes available when the service interval is changed.
It doesn't explain where these buttons or the display is located.

This proceedure is probably better explained in the Owner's Manual.

My Maint Req light is blinking when I turn the car on. What does this mean?

There are manufacturer recomended service/maintence requirements at
certain mileage intervals. These are programed into the cars computer.
The light is to remind you, that you have reached or close to one of these intervals. There should be a maint. schedule with the owners
manual, that describes the type of service required, at your mileage.
If you just want to turn off the light. Stop by any major parts store and
they will clear the code. Usually for free. Hope this helps.

How many miles until routine parts need replacing.

The owners manual will have factory recommended service intervals based on mileage. I would sugest a new timing belt and waterpump, based on mileage. A local Toyota dealer call tell you what services are required at this mileage. Most other parts just work until they break. Do the maintenance it is much cheaper in the long run.

The Maintenance Req indicator light is on. The car is a 2005.

That's a mileage-based indicator that is there to remind the driver that, based on the mileage on the car, some service interval has arrived. It's NOT a signal that there's been a fault or failure. Being that you have a Toyota, the typical timing service interval is every 60k miles (replacement if you have a belt, inspection if you have a chain). At that interval, the water pump, thermostat, accessory belt(s), spark plugs, timing tensioner (for a belt), and all fluids and filters are typically replaced, as well as an inspection of the brakes and suspension, and a tire rotation. It's a costly service but it's important. That's probably why your light has illuminated. Take a look in your owner's manual and look at the maintenance intervals -- you'll see what is due at this time.

My 2000 audi a6 quattro says it needs service but i dont know what kind of service it needs can you help me

Ignore that first reply. The "service" indicator on the dashboard is programmed to come on every certain number of miles (usually 5-10k, in line with typical service intervals). It's a reminder to you that you probably have some sort of inspection or periodic maintenance due. It is NOT an indicator that there is a problem with the oil or the rear brakes. If there's a failure of some sort, in a system that is monitored by the ECU, the check-engine light will illuminate. The "service" warning is simply a reminder that you should check the owner's manual to see what servicing is due at your mileage.

Service engine soon light on.

This is a light which indicates that the odometer mileage is approaching a service interval. The service intervals are in the owner's manual.

The concept is you take the vehicle to the shop for routine preventive maintenance (and the mechanic resets the light until the next service interval approaches).

Service engine soon after a transmision problem repair

These two events are probably not related. The serviceengine-soon light just means that the vehicle mileage is approaching a service interval.

The concept is when this comes on the vehicle is taekn to the shop for its routine service and the mechanic resets the light.

If you have an owner's manual you'll find the service intervals -- the mileage is approaching one of those intervals.
