Question about 1999 Mazda 626
Power steering has electric motor running the pump. In freezing weather, it will not go on. If in the 20's it will go on if I restart after warming up for 20 minutes. Below that and I have to drive with no power steering. My son is a an aircraft mechanic, he says it is the brushes, they shrink when it is cold and are not making contact until the metal warms and expands. There should be a recall on this, It is dangerous to drive without power steering. I bought it used and there is no Mazda warranty on it so anyone else having the problem, please report to Mazda 800-222-5500 and NHTSA at 888-327-4236. Anyone have a solution for now?

sounds like it needs to be taken to a madza approved repairer for then to be plugged in for a dianostic annalisis, too many warning lights for one fuse.

on top of the struts under the bonnet is a plastic cover with a nut underneath ,put some engine oil around this nut so it soaks through to the bearinig ,might or might not work dependiing on the fault but its a favourite trick of mine that often works
