Re: Why doesn't it run well?
Which engine? 1 cam, 1..6L or twin, or the 1.8L twin cam,( that bends valves in the head when the belt slips, etc)
lots of reasons,, over 50 in fact
want us to guess, 1 in 50 or all 50.?
if misfiring , new spark plugs and wires. cap.rotor.
if already tuned up, a clean aircleaner with filter or just fuel filter?>
do the whole 60k mile tune up.
check spark timing yet, if way of the cam belt slipped,
(a 5 min check that makes, common ignored belts easy to find)

Is the catalytic converter original? sounds to me like it just might be clogged in the short period car is running how hot is the catalytic getting (careful when touching sounds to me like its getting really hot) check all intake and throttle body bolts for tightness intake boot not cracked all intake clamps tightened and checked for good seal.
you may have turned too many rmps and warped a piston which would cause the piston to actualy hit your valve, or while turning too many rpms you may have caused the valve to "float" which would mess it up
I'm not a pro but sounds like your injectors might be clogged. Try buying a high strength fuel system cleaner from like Autozone but sounds like you might have to remove the injectors and clean them manually. Are you sure they are firing? You can listen to them fire by placing a stethoscope on them and verify there is a uniform ticking noise in them while the engine is running.
These can have many pages and many year-to-year and model variations.
Check Haynes and Chilton for an aftermarket service manual for your car.
They are between ~$17-$30 and will earn their money back many times over and available online and at most any auto parts store.
