How to know if the spark plug needs to be changed before you get it to shift!?

run fault codes to check for misfiring codes . There is a misconception that the spark plugs have to be changed but as the modern cars run an extreme voltage spark that has virtually no current flow the spark plugs do not have to be change out . If you spend more dollars on platinum plugs they will out last the motor

Air fuel mixture may be it. Also it could be a bad catalytic converter. Also the timing may be the culprit.

I'm going to guess TIMING BELT. Fairly common with this engine. Thankfully, they are a "NON-interference" motor so it didn't do any damage when the belt snapped. Just need to replace it. Should cost around $300-$400 depending on where you are. Good luck!

How do you change a rear main oil seal in a 2000 toyota celica gt

First of all, be certain that the leak is in fact from that seal. many leaks travel to that area.

To change the seal is fairly involved, you need to pull the trans and flywheel. There are some specialzed tools involved. Do you have manual or automatic? Manual requires clutch plate alignment on re assembly, by the way , if manual, be sure to change the release bearing and pilot bearing at minimum. Commonly it would make sense to change the clutch during this process....you're already all the way in there..

How do I remove the spark plugs from a 1996 Toyota Celica GT2200

Ok if its got the 3sgte engine with the water to air intercooler (earlier version had air to air intercooler and is much the same but no liquid is involved!)
1)Drain intercooler coolant
2)remove intercooler (3 bolts), disconnect the intercooler from the turbo, and intake air connector and remove the intercooler and air hose
3)remove the cool air inlet (2 bolts)
by now you should be able to see the spark plug leads, and is straight forward. The above procedure isn't as bad as it sounds, so dont be scared!
cheers

need to change rotor and cap , and might as well change wires and spark plugs if its due for a tuneup! yeah have your ignition control module check if it doesn't start after replacing every thing else.

blue smoke is evidence of oil burning and is most likely valve seals. this can be done on most cars with head still on by applying air to the cylinders this keeps valves up while spring is removed
