Whenever your check engine light is on your vehicle is in a limp mode. So you may notice extra fuel consumption. But you can run it for sometime with this light on without issue.........TPS stands for throttle position sensor. It tells the computer how far the throttle butterfly valve is open in the air intake of your truck.
Hope this helps!

check that the connection to the computer is pressed full home and is making good contact. Run fault codes to find any faulty sensors. Reset the CPU using a code reader.

1999 Dodge/cummins can the P0122 code cause my hard start problem

this obd2 trouble code table can help you understand the meaning of code, for this code, you can try:
Carefully check the throttle position sensor (TPS), wiring connector, and wiring for breaks, etc. Repair or replace as necessary
Check the voltage at the TPS (refer to a service manual for your vehicle for specific information). If the voltage is too low that is indicative of a problem. Replace if necessary.
If recently replaced the TPS may need to be adjusted. On some vehicles the installation instructions call for the TPS to be properly aligned or adjusted, consult a repair manual for specifics.
If there are no symptoms at all, the problem may be intermittent and clearing the code may resolve the issue temporarily. If this is the case then you should definitely check the wiring to be sure it's not rubbing on anything, grounding, etc. The code may come back.

Cummins Diesel losses accelerator mostly when weather is cold

this is referred to as a drive by wire system. meaning you have no accel cable. it uses a sensor on the gas pedal and on the pump. probably the pedal sensor going bad need to check the code and go from there
