First With all due RESPECT its Not the GLOW PLUGS you Plug In they get heates up Upon turning on key and waiting. Haveing said thet Whay itIS you PLUG IN is a BLOCK HEATER whtch is a High Wattage Heat Element that is in the COOLANT Galley Of The Block or A Head, The ac plug for it useualy is tie straped under FRONT BUMPER Look Hard It should have a Protectant Dommy Plug Covering the Plugs you would plug into an Extention cord. You May Look under hood at ENGINE to see it you see A useuualy Flat 3 WIRE CORD Coming out of the Block or Haed. I Looked all through Alldata for the Location of the Plug for 45 minutes and It Only shows Heater Ellement Looked Like Passenger side Head is where it was. So Sorry just Gota Go on a SUPER HUNT for it. I Serviced A Fleet of Diesels for 10 years and I Know They NEED that EXTRA HEAT Happy Hunting God Bless rejakwilson

Glow plugs run off the battery . the plug is for a block heater that you may or may not have . if you have a plug it is behind the grill on pass side , it has a cap over the prongs so you might not think of it as a plug untill you pull the cover off . if you ask nice any shop in your area will show you where it is or where its not . good luck

Ford 03 6.0L Excursion wont start when cold

You need to start with your glow plug circuit. There is a glow plug module that is the most likely culprit. You need to get a circuit tester and when the another person turns the key, you verify whether or not you have voltage to glow plug on the engine itself. If not the control module will have to be replaced. The glow plug control module is on the right hand side and front of the engine. Let me know what else you may need.

Glow plugs

You'll find the glow plugs where spark plugs would be in a gasoline engine (in the cylinder heads).
The glow plugs will be smaller than spark plugs and, like a light bulb, will burn out and loose electrical continuity. You can check them in place with an ohm meter:
Remove the wire attached to the positive end and mesaure resistance to gound (engine block) through the plug. Unscrew failed glow plugs and install replacements. Carefully clean around the plugs prior to removal (to prevent dirt entering the engine) and apply the correct anti-seize compound to the threads of the new plugs where they screw into the heads. Be sure the wires are well connected without any corrosion or oxidation (no resistance).
Take your time and work carefully so as to avoid breaking or cross threading plugs. Do not wash the engine with water or detergent as the injector pump is delicate.

86 Ford truck WONT start

Sounds like bad advice. If your glow plugs are bad, the last thing you want to do is try to start it. Remember, diesel engines use these glow plugs like coils in a toaster. Since diesel is harder to burn than gasoline, the glow plugs heat up to a combustible temperature, allowing the diesel to ignite and your vehicle to start. I don't know the reprocussions of trying to start it without them working...but it can't be good.

Glow plug timer fuse on 1984 Ford F 250

not a fuse ! Its a 60 amp circuit breaker under dash . If your glow plug timer is not working it most likely needs replaced ! it is located on top of the engine behind the air intake . if you don't know where it is , ask for the diagram at your auto parts store . they will also give you the exact location of the breaker and print it out for you .

Glow plugs

glow plug wire harness under valve covers often deteriorates causing no glow plug heating. The connectors and wire terminals are available from Ford as a kit or individually. Do not replace the harness. $600!
Still need the fuse panel circuit? Look in owner manual.
glow plugs use a relay too.

Check the glow plug timer relay. This is what determines the length of time your glow plugs stay on. If it is cycling off too soon, you will have this problem.,
