Misfire/Backfire and not accelerating properly wondering whats the problem?

1st get a new air filter I recommend a quality brand like the oem one or purolator.
2nd remove and clean the maf sensor. Start with the screw clamp on the intake hose. Then unplug the sensor just squeeze the tab and wiggle it off. Now remove the 4 - 10mm boltsthat hold the maf sensor on the air box. Use caution as some models have a housing with brackets that are loose when the above 4 bolts are removed.
Next clean the air flow sensor using crc maf cleaner or other maf sensor safe cleaner. This is necessary as the sensor gets dirty as the miles accumulate. Make sure the sensor wires are very clean and let it fry for 30 mins before re-installing the sensor.

I would inspect the blower motor for debris as a 93 impreza doesn't have a cabin filter.
You can access the hvac fan from under the glove box see the attached video for how to. I know its not the correct subaru but the procedure is the same. misfire-backfire-not-accelerating-tq5sh21jzhkdedjt044n20r3-4-0.jpg

I have a 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, 2.2 liter w/AT. My issue is that it doesn't want to accelerate until I hit 3500 rpm, then it will take off like a rocket until it shifts and the rpm's...

Transmission range sensor or better known as the neutral safety switch. Also check the transmission fuse, EAXT fuse. They are both the same fuse.

97 impreza sti.the codes are working i disconnected maf to see if it made a difference it didnt checked codes and it showed 23 ie maf sensor but thats because i disconnected it.cleared codes checked again...

i will recommend cleaning the sensor. there is a product disigned to clean it. it's a spray, obviously enough called maf sensor cleaner. your sensor might be dirty, degrading operation, especially if your using an aftermarket air filter like k&n which uses oil to filter the air.

Subaru impreza rs 2.5 insanely high idle

o2 would not cause this neither would the fuel filter, a clogged fuel filter would cause much the opposite. try reving the engine by the throttle body and pay attention to the throttle body, alot of throttle bodys start to wear and actually lock up slightly open, this would cause the throttle position sensor to read as if you were accelerating even though the pedal is at its rest position. seen this alot on nissan altimas 200-2005, cheers

Jumping or jerking when i accelerate

I had a turbo renault , I cranked the wastegate down to increase boost and had same problem.
There was a sensor that cut the ignition if the turbo was over pressuring. Was a pretty violent jerking, felt like it was tearing the engine mounts out.
