Most timing belt suppliers recommend 50k to 60k miles for replacement. Your Galant has a interference engine meaning that if the belt fails your will incur major engine damage up to and including replacement of the entire engine.
So if you have over 60k miles on the car go ahead and change the belt, and while you have it apart replace the water pump.
Most manufactures recommend changing Timing Belts @ 100k Kilometers. For low milage vehicles, 7 years is usually the limit. It would be wise to change it soon so that you don't suffer expensive repairs if it does break.
the recommended ?? milage for renewing belt on these is between 100,000 -120,000 miles but again this is a recommended time/milage so if you are close to this milage ? i would advise renewal also make sure water pump shows no sign of impending leakagewhilst changing belt and tensioner
if you have winter our suppose to change to t belt every 100,000km or 60,000miles if you go by the book our suppose to change it by the months its maintenanse just in case you dont have mush milage but the years are there hope it help thanks pierre
