You have a vacuum leak.

Is there a likely place to look beside "under the hood"? I mean is there a typical vacuum line that breaks?

Car will not accelerate when gas pushed

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when I accellerating, it sounds like air or a whoosing sound is coming from the gas pedal. When foot is off the gas pedal, the sound stops. Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

It may just be the air cleaner that you hearing. It tends to make a whoosing sound during acceleration.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Accelaration loss of power

I'd have a fuel pressure test done to be sure, it isn't fuel related again. Takes 5 or 10 minutes so cost should be minimal. The other thing that comes to mind is a plugged exhaust. (catalytic converter) Quite possible on a 10yr.old vehicle.
