There is a restriction some where Check radiator and heater core have system FLUSH. can be done by removing thermostat and drain radiator replace with water add a 10 minute FLUSH can be bought from Auto zone and let vehicle run for 10 minutes and then drain. At this time you should also disconnect heater core hoses( 2 black hoses going into fire wall) using garden hose flush Core out. More than likely its clogged(MAY even be disconnect if you are NOT their original owner . Refill the system when finished with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water and replace thermostat run as usual and your problem should be solved. Good Luck contact if you need more help. 2003 chrysler town and coy try, temp gauge goes up and heater gets warm when idling, but as we drive the temp gauge goes way down and heater blows cool air. Any suggestions?

1. Engine Coolant Temperature.
If the thermostat in the cooling system is getting stuck in the open or partially open position rather than opening and closing as needed to keep the coolant at the required operating temperature then you will get the results you have described here with the coolant temp dropping as you drive. The radiator is providing optimum cooling when the car is moving and there is plenty of cold air flow through it.
I am assuming the temp gauge in the vehicle is reading correctly.

Thermostats in the cooling system do become faulty in time and it may well never have been changed (or only changed once) since the car was built and is possibly gummed up with debris. With those symptoms I would definitely change the thermostat. Make sure a full flush of the cooling system is done at the same time and refilled with fresh coolant.

2. In Car Heater.
I would not worry about the interior heating until you change the thermostat on the cooling system. However if you continue to get cold air from the heater then there will be an issue with hot coolant from the cooling system being restricted in flowing through the heater core.

It may just be the way the car works. I have a 2005 Altima and it does the same thing, but just doesn't blow really warm air. Try putting the air on recirculating, that may help a little. If it's still REALLY cold when you are stopped, I would check/replace the thermostat first. If you want to check the thermostat to see if it's working yourself, just remove it, and inspect it while it is cold, then put it in a pot of boiling water for 3 mins, inspect it, if the valve has opened it is okay, if it looks the same (aka valve was open to begin with) it may just be staying open and it should be replaced.

Temperature gauge fluctuates and the heater blows cold air

Definitely check your fluid level in your radiator. Top it off all the way. I've seen that happen multiple times on cars that were low on anti-freeze. If that doesn't work try replacing your thermostat. It's cheap and the easiest place to start if topping off the fluid doesn't get you fixed up.

The heater is only blowing cold air

First, check to make sure you are not low on coolant. Check hoses going to heater and see if they are getting hot.(one should be hot, the other should be slightly less hot but not cold or just warm) Check heater control valve to make sure that it is operating, Check that plenum door is opening properly inside the cabin, in the heater box. If you have done any work at all on cooling system, run the engine 'till it reaches operating temp with radiator cap off...sometimes htr core can become air-bound. Also...goes without saying, but make sure that engine reaches normal operating temp while driving. If not check thermostat!

Heater blowing cold both sides

Does it blow warm air when you drive the car? If so its the water pump.

Could also be air in the coolant system

Also have the cylinder head pressure tested to rule out a hblown head gasket
Hope this helps
