Question about 2003 Jaguar X-Type

1 Answer

Radio will not turn off. change chanels,.. stuck on AM station

We took our 2003 X type Jaguar into detail shop. Radio worked perfect. When we came back to pick the car up the radio was tuned into a mexican station, ( we don't speak spanish) this was not a problem sence the detailers were mostly from Mexico. What was strange was the fact that the radio would not change from AM to FM, would not change to another station, and we could not turn it off.

Has anyone ever had anything like this to happen? I've been around a long time and seen my share of things but this was a first for me. We took the car to the Jaguar dealership, they looked it over and said they had not seen anything like it.

    John,

This has me 100% confused. I have thought over and over in my own head, and ask several people what they thought and all come back that it may have just went out. No rhyme nor reason. Maybe!!!! BUT, sure is a coincidence that it happened just as we picked it up AND that it was mexicans that detailed the car, AND that they couldn't speak but very little english.

    Thanks

I found out the problem. It is not in the radio, but in the setring collom. When detailing the car the mess up the radio control in the stering wheel. Thus the radio was in a constant search mode, and was locket into the strongest station at that time.

Hope this will help someone else

daleionk, I have the exact same problem with my x-type and just recently switched out the radio for a new one and it still has the same problems with no buttons working and stuck on one station. How did you get it to stop searching? Thank you so much for posting this! I'm glad I'm not the only one that has come across this issue.

Hi
Yes a most unusual problem, one too I have never come across.

On giving it some thought, possibly your old radio was substituted for a faulty unit, by and unscrupulous emploee at the Spanish retail shop ?

Look forward to receiving your thoughts.

Best wishes

John.

Replace radio. radio itself is probably shorted out or some of the capacitors have gone bad

Contact your Jaguar dealership, you will need to know the VIN (just inside windscreen on metal plate) there is a small charge.

Jaguar s-type restricted performance

I had the same problem. Restricted performance and running rough at 3000 RPM. I have an OBDII code reader and found that the problem was in the air mass flow sensor, which is just after the air filter. I pulled this out and found it was dirty and had butterfly wings in it. The last shop where I had the oil changed replaced the filter for me but put in the wrong size. Close but no cigar. Bought some *** Flow Sensor cleaner at auto store and fixed the problem. Get an OBDII reader with the ability to erase the codes. Comes in real handy.
