How to remove upper ball joint on driver side of an 1994 GMC Sonoma

The OEM ball joint is riveted into the upper control arm. There are two possible ways to replace the joint. You can purchase the entire upper control arm/ball joint assembly, which comes complete with the upper control arm bushings. This part costs about $150.00. You will also have to deal with the coil spring when replacing it this way. You can also buy just the ball joint for about $30.00. This will require that you drill out the rivets of the original ball joint and then bolt in the replacement with the bolts that are provided with it. The 2WD and 4WD versions are the same. NEED NEW BALL JOINTS WHAT PARTS WOULD I NEED

Ball joints come as upper and lower. Requires at least a ball joint separater tool and small hand grinder along with basic hand tools. Some lowers are pressed in/out and require either a c-clamp style press or to remove control arm and take to a machine shop to be pressed in using a floor press. Parts are ordered by vehicle make, ball joints run in the $25-$40 range per joint. All you need to do is go to the parts store, tell them what vehicle and they can give you the proper joints you require. 2 upper joints and 2 lower joints. (1 each on each vehicle side). Not and easy job, but not impossible to do at home. Joints for your vehicle should be in stock at most auto parts stores.

I need to change the lower ball joint on my 89 f150 4x4 how do i do it

remove brakin system(caliper pads rotor) then disconnect outer tie rod, remove cotter pins on both ball joint nuts and remove nuts, then separate hub from i-beam, on the bench remove spring clip holing ball joint and press out, press in new joint and install hub in reverse order of dissassembly, apply grease to axle regrease bearings and caliper sliders, you will need a ball joint separator and a ball joint press, use new cotter pins

Rt front axle broke how to repair

If there is no other damage aside from the outer CV joint being out.

1. Jack car up and support on jack stand on the affected side.
2. Remove wheel
3. Remove center hub nut
4. Turn wheels all the way to one side or the other. This is to gain access to the lower ball joint. One way will be easier than the other depending on how the bolt is installed.
5. Remove lower ball joint bolt and nut
6. Separate the ball joint by using a large pry bar or pipe to push the control arm down and hit side of joint with hammer.
7. Once joint has released pry down to free control arm from ball joint shaft.
8. Now tap the outer cv joint part still trapped in the hub out
9. Remove remaining axle from transmission by using a pry bar to pry it out of the transmission.
10. Reinstall new axle into transmission and then start into hub. Make sure to shove axle firmly into transmission so as to get past the C-clip lock.
11. Pry lower control arm down to allow the ball joint to be reassembled. Slip ball joint shaft back into control arm.
12. Reinstall bolt and nut
13. Install hub nut
14. Install wheel
