Question about 2004 Ford Mustang

1 Answer

2002 mustang will not start

When I try to start it up I just keep getting the "rrr-rrr-rrr" without the engine turning over. After trying it a few times the "rrr-rrr-rrr" keeps getting weaker. Could this be a sign of a bad starter? I checked the battery voltage and everything is fine. Also, I am beginning to notice that my gauges are going crazy. The hands keep bouncing back and forth when I try to start the car.

just bought a new battery and still having the same issues. The engine is trying to crank over but won't. Could it be the fuel pump or filter?

You say the engine is trying to crank over, what do u mean? the starter is not working properly? I read into this that u don't have the same problem, before u said it did nothing, just made a noise "rrr-rrr-rrr" is what u said, and the guages went crazy, so is it still doing that? got me just a bit confused.,

U had better get the battery load tested, because the guages bouncing around is a sure sign of a bad battery, it can show volts but be nearly open under the terminal inside the battery and supply no current.

I would have the battery tested for a weak cell and if the battery is good have the alternator checked but before all this check the condition of the drive belt

What would make a car sound like the battery is dead when trying to start (new battery)

Look at the negative battery cable and the engine to body bonding strap. These can melt just like the positive cable. The starter can be pulling too much current causing the whole problem.

Undo the battery for 10 minutes, plug it back up, let the car sit for 20 minutes WITHOUT trying to start it, then try to start it. it should work.

2002 mustang the motor turns over and it gets gas but it wont run gas had water and we empty it and put new gas but it want run

Fuel system may be contaminated. Even if you drain tank it will have water in the injectors. Take a can of starting fluid, have some one turn over engine. Spray a small amount in throttle body. IF engine starts suspect water still in injectors. You may have to repeat several times to clear out. ALSO there is a small valve on fuel line. IT is where you would hook a fuel pressure gauge. YOU can bleed the water out at that point. You can open valve and turn key on and off several times, place a rag over check valve as fuel will spray out! Close valve try and start car

How can I bypass the starter in my car(manual trans) so it will start? I had the battery checked and it's fine.

  • If the engine cranks ("rrr-rrr-rrr") when you turn the key, then the problem isn't the starter or the battery.Plan to have at least one person sitting in the driver's seat and one or two persons pushing.Turn off all accessories (radio, wipers, lamps).Turn the key to the "on" position.Depress the clutch pedal with your foot.Put the transmission in first or second gear.Release the hand brake and the foot brake.Note that the people pushing need to get the car rolling as fast as they can. This works best down a hill or an incline.Release the clutch pedal while giving the engine a little gas with the gas pedal once the car is moving about as fast as you can run. The engine should start

Try and turn your key from run to off run to off without cranking your engine to pressure you fuel lines and pump... you may also need more then one gallon in your fuel tank.

Get a DTC scanner and see what it says...in the meantime, check that fuel pump relay and fuel pump. The humming sound is probably the heater blower motor or part of the HVAC system winding down after disconnecting from power.

Heeeelp! turns over but wont start. changed gas filter, cap, rotor.

Are you sure it is getting spark to the plugs? Did you check fuel pressure? It still may be getting some fuel but not enough. Is it fuel injected or car berated?
