Possible o2 sensor 2002 GMC Onvoy

Several codes indicate possible cylinder misfires. We changed plugs, fule filers. Now a code indicates possible o2 sensor. What are the possible symptoms of a failing o2 sencor ?

Okay we have changed one o2 sensor for the intake. The service engine light came back on the next day. It's pulling a lot more codes than it did just last week, one of them is the EV code. So far we have changed all six spark plugs, fuel filter, and a lot of basic maintence. Any advice?????

O2 sensors indicate unburned oxygen in the exhaust sysytem. Bad O2 sensors causes fuel mixture to run rich. It causes fuel consumption and your emmissions test will not pass. Check for vacuum leaks check the manifold.check for a misfiring cylinder, a burned exhaust valve that is leaking compression. replace the O2 sensor or sensors. Some cars have 2 . One for the intake another for the out take. If it reads a code for the Map sensor along with the O2. It is better ifyou replace both sensors. But I think that the problem lies in the oxygen sensor or sensors. Pleae vote my answer if this helps.

Have codes indicating bank 2 running lean(po174,po153,po159) also have codes for misfires on all cylinders. Does the misfire trigger o2 codes or does bad o2 sensor cause misfires?

misfire could cause o2 codes. o2 sensors are measuring the oxygen in the exhaust - if you're sending unburnt fuel through there (like a misfire), it would throw the value way off. if you're getting a 'lean' error, I would first suspect a bad fuel injector. But you are having a misfire on all cylinders... I would then look at the ECU as it may be having issues sending the 'open' signals to the injectors.

2002 eord F150 po174 system adaptive fule too lean bank2

PO174- too lean bank two --is a possible rich
condition driven lean by the pcm

Check for leaking injectors, vacuum leaks, fuel pressure

Look at fuel trim on scanner

The front oxygen sensors get replaced every 100,000 miles,
so there may be some of the problems

Start with fuel trim, cylinder misfires, spark plugs, injectors, on that
bank, as a place to do your testing for the code

Look at freeze frame data & I/M Monitor activity, to see if the O2
Monitors ran clean & look at O2 data

I have a 2002 Jaguar X-type. The check engine light came on and it has been acting jumpy/shaky. I recently took it to be diagnosed and the codes I recieved back were P1314, P1316, P1111, and P0302..What do...

All fault codes can be checked out at http://www.bluejag.co.uk but here are the results for some of yours. You can ignor P1111. Looks like a faulty plug or coil pack cylinder 2

Fault Code:- P1314 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Ignition or Misfire area

Fault Description: Misfire rate catalyst damage -bank 2 NOTE: This DTC will flag only when accompanied by an individual cylinder misfire DTC: P0300 - P0306

Action of ECM:- ECM Default:- Maximum engine speed reduced

After clearing the DTC, complete the Misfire monitor drive cycle
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

Possible Fault:- Cylinder compression low Worn camshaft / broken valve spring(s) Fuel delivery pressure (low / high) Fuel injector(s) restricted / leaking Fuel injector(s) continuously open Fuel contamination Fuel injector circuit fault(s) (Injector DTCs also flagged) Spark plug failure / fouled / incorrect gap ECM to ignition coil primary circuit fault (Cylinder misfire detected DTC also flagged) Ignition coil failure
Fault Code:- P1316 Indicates a Power-train fault

The fault is generally due to a problem in the Ignition or Misfire area

Fault Description: Misfire excess emission NOTE: This DTC will flag only when accompanied by an individual cylinder misfire DTC: P0300 - P0306

Action of ECM:- none

After clearing the DTC, complete the Misfire monitor drive cycle
Check for a reoccurrence of fault DTC.

Missfire in cylinder 2

I assume you know the problem is a misfire in #2 cylinder from checking the diagnostics code. Although these codes can be helpful in narrowing down a problem they lack specific details. In the case there are several possible items that could trigger the engine fault code P0302

These include:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
Before you spend any money to resolve this you need to narrow this list down even more. Start by pulling the plug. Do a image web search on "spark plug diagnosis". This will give you pictures of plugs with a variety of problems to compare with yours and give you an indication whether or not the plugs need replacing. Next if possible switch #2 plug wire with another. Make sure you switch both ends (coil end and spark plug end) of the spark plug wire.
These are the no or low cost options. Beyond these you will need to start replacing items like the Ignition Coil and O2 sensor.
If you are still having the problem after checking and/or replacing the items listed above, your next step is a compression test on #2 cylinder.
If you get to this point please repost here with the results with the wires and plugs and I will give you the steps to follow with compression testing.
Hope this helps.

Sounds like two problems. P0300 and P0303 are possibly spark plugs. They could be a coil pack but I'm leaning toward a spark plug problem because of the other two codes - they're indicating O2 sensor problems. If the O2 sensors are screwed up, the car reverts to preprogrammed, rich fuel maps that send excessive fuel through the engine. The reasoning is, if the ECU can't trust the O2 sensors to determine how much fuel to burn optimally, it'll pump a bunch of extra fuel through the engine to keep it safe. Having too little fuel (aka running lean) can destroy an engine, so the ECU plays it safe and runs rich (too much fuel) instead. The consequences of rich running are relatively minor compared to lean running, but can and do tend to create excessive carbon buildup on the catalytic converter and O2 sensors, as well as fouling spark plugs.

First thing to do though is to swap the wires on your coil packs and see if you end up with a misfire code for the same cylinder #3. If you do, then it's the plug or wire. If it moves, it's the coilpack. Replace whichever part is faulty. You'll probably need oxygen sensors too, before you can clear all the codes.
