Get all 4 wheels in the ground if you can. make sure the car is in neutral and see if you can spin all 4 of the wheels easily. sounds to me like your breaks might be sticking on one or more wheel. if you cant spin a wheel freely then that would be your problem.

Emergency brake

I recently bought a 92 Honda Acord LX...146000Miles on it. I recently took of the back wheels to check the brakes. My wife thought the rear brakes were dragging since when she takes her foot off the accelerator the car slows down, unlike our Town & Country which has over drive. The Honda has a 4 sp auto and it feels like it is shifting ok but, we wonder if it ever gets to 4th which I assume is OD...or is it? It shifts rather positive, which is OK with me....no slipping into gear for smoother shifting. I digress.
What I really want to know is what kind of set-up does the Honda have as far as the emergency brake goes.....cables or something else? I found no cables going to the rear wheels....or else the are hidden real good. We are afraid to use the emergency brake since another used car we bought once had rusted cables and we locked up the rear wheels and couldn't release them. I had to tear it all down and install new cables.
Sorry, as you can see, I ramble. All I want to know is does the car have cables or some other means for the emergency brake? Thanx

1998 Honda Civic manual trans will not shift into gears. Car starts, push in clutch and it goes to the floor, release clutch and comes back up. Unable to put into gears. Brake fluid and clutch fluid seem...

Eric, how are you confirming whether or not the car goes into gear if you shift gears without the engine running? One way would be to put it in 1st and see if you can push the car. If you can't, it is in gear.

Another option is to roll the car slightly forward or backward (engine off) while trying to put the car in gear. Once it is in gear, then the car shouldn't move any further. However, if it goes into gear, DO NOT start the car without taking it back out of gear.

The clutch is much more likely to be the problem than the transmission.

If the clutch fluid ever ran dry, then the clutch hydraulics will need to be bled of air. Otherwise, the problem could be the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder or throwout bearing. Since you didn't report the clutch slipping (e.g. engine revving without accelerating when in gear) it is likely not the clutch disks themselves.

2008 hyundai accent clutch slipping, i think?

seems a bit early for clutch. how many k's? I would start by checking the intake tube for splits & security & airflow sensor. they will cause the engine to rev but no response (like a slipping clutch) so its manual right?

Clutch pedal goes down , but does not seem to release far enough to change gears, im thinking it has something to do with the line that goes from pedal to ******, that part on ****** does not seem tig

i dont see what car you have, but most clutches are hydraulic these days. under the hood on the firewall there should be a small fluid cylinder called a clutch slave cylinder. it should be full of brake fluid. when it leaks, the pedal feels strange and it will not release the clutch. usually when the fluid leaks it it due to a failed slave cylinder on the transmission.

Feels like tires rubbing worse around corners when excelerating put on new tires same problem feels like back of truck hard to tell

Hello, If you have rear disc brakes check your Emergency brakes inside the rear Rotor hub. Sometimes the lining of the E brake will rust away from shoe and float inside the drum portion. It is more apparent after stops and after backing up a distance and then going forward.

There can also be clutches in the limited-slip differentials which can act up around corners. Some Models use a friction compound in the rearend to help the clutches work and on 4 wheel drive units the rear differential may use a synthetic gear lube while the front axle uses a normal lube.

Check your E-brakes and if you still have the problem, pop off the differential cover and see what is in the bottom of the housing. This will give you the opportunity to clean inside the axle housing and replace the lube with something you know belongs there.

1994 Ford Probe GT Transmission

OK..............There is no transmission fluid just clutch fluid. Its in a small reservoir on the firewall. I think you have a worn clutch or it needs the lines adjusted. If the clutch doesn't engage until the pedal it almost at the top then you need to adjust it or replace it. The cleaner you put in is irrelevant to your problem. There is gear oil in the transmission though but that's not the problem either. The clutch cable is easy to adjust, just loosen the lock nut and spin the cable adjuster until the pedal feels right. Hope this helps :)

My car drives fine when i shift to thired to fourth into fifth my motor runs and the tranmission seems to drag those gears could it be fluid manual or vacume hose

does it seem like the motor goes faster than the car if so than your clutch is slipping and in need of replacing, but if it feels like its holding you back then it could be the emergency brake is hanging up and slightly applied maybe the cable is frozen or something of that nature if so jack up car and spin wheels at rear to see if they are free wheeling, hope this helps you.

Ford ranger back brakes locked up? what can cause this?

If NOT PARK BRAKE & / or Cables , THE BRAKE HOSE (RUBBER) from body to Axel can Fail on the INSIDE in a Way that it HOLDS Brake Fluid IN the Rear Axel (LINES) "STEAL" It sounds Strange But in My 30 years I have seen this MOSTLY on Front (Rubber) Hoses But also A Number of times, if you Crack it Loose on the AXEL side (Just After Semi HARD APPLYING of BRAKE) and it Drains Fluid FAST this is your Problem. Only OTHER Item Involved to HOLD BOTH WHEELS is> As I Said the PARK BRAKE MECHANISM & / OR CABLES.

Try having clutch adjusted first, then you will know if clutch has been slipping.
Let me know if this helps. MMP
