Went to start my 1999 windstar for no reason it started making a knocking noies after it quit knocking it started smoking ran fine when I parked it what might of happened

You have described symtoms usually associated with two different engine problems. The knocking is generally a sign of a lower engine (Con rod or main) bearing failure. The smoking is generally a sign of oil in the upper cylindr/combustion chamber. This can be traced to rings and or valve problems in most cases. Unless of course a valve or valve spring has failed which may cause physical damage to the upper end. Any further attempt to start or run the engine at this point without a proper diagnosis could caus efurther damage. Did the eng stop running after the smoke was seen?

Where is the killer switch on Windstar 1998. Could it be the problem with truck not shutting off or not starting.

there is a fuel cut off switch that will keep it from running. its design to trigger in a severe inertia or impact of the vehicle.
the button should be under the handle of the hood release lever facing upward .. hope this helps

WON'T START AFTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Probably a security system, battery was unhooked.
Some Fords also have two fuel pumps, one in the tank, and a secondary one in the frame rail.
