The trunk release button on the driver's side door won't pop the trunk. To make matters worse, the remote seems to have gone dead, and won't pop the trunk. And for some reason the two ingition keys I have don't unlock the trunk?
Take the remote apart and take the battery and get it matched and replace it you can do this at walmart or a battery store.. youalso need to check the fuses because if the trunkdoesnt open and the fuel door does . there on the same fuse and it could be a more serious problem .. try cleaning out the lock cylinder on the trunk it is exposed so it will get dust and dirt and water in it..

lost the other fob>>> ?????
never own a car with 1 fob.
and if one fob messes up, the battery inside is dead. (or worse)
if just lock fails the button is bad, if one fob false, and they do
its just cheezy switch. (can be cleaned)
use the other FOB, if it fails, post.
Check in the glove box for a push button to open trunk. Also along the driver's side floor sill (between the seat and the door). Along the bottom of the dash on driver's side, check there too. My son has a '92 Lesabre, and there is no trunk release-only the key opens the trunk.
it is very possible for the lights to drain the battery. to the second question, if you were to unplug the switches, it should turn the lights off. along with this, no you wouldn't be able to use windows. you may have to replace the switch due to water damage.
I would check the owners manual or with Cadillac - its possible the remotes lost part of the signal and need to be reset. It sounds like the receiver is not getting a signal from them by using that button. Could be the receiver too.
When you press the trunk open button, do you hear any "release" noise come from the trunk area? The issue may be a bad battery in the key fob OR there could be an issue with the transmitter located inside the vehicle. Do the doors lock and unlock properly? is the vehicle equipped with security or immobilizer? please advise
You have listed the vehicle is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6. The trunk is not electronic and only unlocks with the key as well as both the gas doors. Any issues here then it is your key or the actual trunk latch. If you do have a 1988 model year then the trunk lock has 3 positions. locked all the time, unlocked all the time or the vertical position locks and unlocks with the vehicles drivers door lock. If the trunk button (paddle) is loose and moves but nothing happens then the inside rod has come loose and you will have to manually operate the latch by removing the license plate and taking a long screw driver through the lower plastic bungs. The fuel flap is a separate unite and does have a manual release but you need to open the trunk to get to it. If the fuel flap stays locked all the time then the actually filler neck module will need replacing. If you have a 1997 which has the electronic release button to open the trunk (95-2003) Then you will need to firstly lock all door and unlock the drivers door 2 times. Check the fuel flap is now released, if not then the fuel flap actuator located on the filler neck inside the trunk is bad. If the trunk does not open with the remote, inside car switch and trunk mounted switch then the passenger side trunk harness is broken. Open the trunk with the key and on the right(passenger) hinge there is a grey plastic cover, remove that cover and carefully peel back the wiring harness cover and you will find 1 or more broken wires. Once the wires are repaired then I recommend you zip tie them in place and retest the trunk release button. If this does not answer any of your questions please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org
sounds like it could be the latch mechanism is seized(rare but does happen) and you could try forcing the trunk lid open while using the remote button at the same time and it may pop open, other wise the release motor is not working properly(motor making noise but not moving),you should get a trunk key made just for this type of reason(any thing electrical or electronic will fail).otherwise you will have to access to the trunk some how to repair the problem.
Check fuse.. Test for power to trunk release solenoid. When door button, or remote trunk release button is pushed. If there is power ( use a 12 volt test light ) most probably faulty release . Hope this helps
