1994 olds 98 regency elite----brake fluid leaking out of master cylinder..................fill every 2 days..........possibly o-ring??????Any diagrams on the net for free??????????

    where is it leaking from exactly.

    the master probably needs to be replaced... however DO NOT BUY A REFURBISHED one. they are junk!!!

My brake pedal slowly losing pressure goes to the floor and then I have to pump it up again


If you break fluid level is correct and your break pedal goes down to the floor means that your master cylinder is going bad and you might loose your breaks completely if not checked or replaced. Your breaking system is down to the last O ring inside the master cylinder, once that rubber O rings goes you will not have any breaks at all. Master cylinders have a number of rubber O rings that work like a plunger or piston that produce pressure within the breaking system. When the first one wears down due to age, your pedal begins to loose break pressure and you have to pump your breaks several times to gain breaking. You are now down to the last rubber O ring and a warning that your master cylinder needs to be checked. You can still use your breaks but only for a few days before the other rubber O ring gives out too. Once both O rings give out you completely loose your breaks.

Hi,if you don't see the fluid leaking anywhere externally than it is filling up the brake booster the master cylinder is attached to. look for seepage evidence under the master cylinder where it attaches to the booster. hope this helps

The rear seal of the master cylinder plunger is leaking, you must replace the master cylinder to correct this.

Where is the clutch auto adjustment located at on a 98 manual Volkswagen jetta?


you most likely have a hydraulic clutch, which the clutch master cylinder is located on the firewall on the driverside close to your drivers side windsheild.it takes brake fluid to fill dot brake fluid will fill it properly. however if your slave cylinder on the transmission is leaking,this will require a replacement of the clutch slave cylinder. look for leakage under passenger side,,just under or below passenger side seat onto ground. recommend if you replace the clutch slave cylinder,you also replace clutch master cylinder located on the drivers side firewall at wind sheild.look under the car while someone pumps the clutch in and out,if you see brake fluid leaking under car onto ground or inside onto carpet at brake pedal,you have a bad clutch master cylinder. recommend you replace both slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder. this will save you lots of time and headaches. thank you for choosing fixya.com

I have a 1994 bonneville that you have to push brake pedal to floor and fluid empties within 1 day. Is it the master cylinder or the line?


check all brake lines and wheel cylinders for leakage. if no leaks its probably the master cylinder. symtoms are-- pedal will sink to floor when stopping or not. or master cylinder leaks from behind "it", and runs down brake booster. if booster goes bad the pedal will be very hard! good-day !

1992 olds regency ninty eight. Break pedal seems to go down futher than it should when applying. when stopped at a light brake pedal seems to slip going further down some. Checked for leaks on brake lines...


if master cylinder is bad. the pedal will go to floor running or not.when the pedal goes down at a standing stop it is usually the master cylinder thats bad. and losing vacuum. thats if there are no other leaks at wheel cylinders etc. if putting on a new master cylinder, do not forget to bench bleed it! heres how. put the master cylinder in the vise, fill it full of fluid then pump the plunger with a dowel or something soft as to not ruin plunger part.do not let it run dry ! when fluid comes out from master cylinder and no more air is in it. fill it up and put on car. heres what I do! remove the lines from old cylinder on car. as long as you do not lose any fluid doing this, there is no need to bleed air from brakes when done. after on car make sure master cylinder is full of fluid. start the car and pump the brakes a few times, then you should be all set.

Just the other day my brake pedal starting going almost to the floor before the brakes activated... checked brake fluids and its full but i boticed that if the car wasn't on that the brake pedal acted...


Given the age of your vehicle and that you do not see any fluid loss, the most likely reason for the brake peddle act this way is because of an internal leak in the master cylinder.
The master cylinder has a piston the operates the brakes when pressure is applied from the peddle. Basically, this piston provides and maintains the fluid pressure because of rubber "O" rings or seals. If the seals are going bad (due to age and wear) the fluid will bypass the piston but still stay in the cylinder and reservoir.
The master cylinder can be rebuilt or new one cost $65-$120 depending on if you have anti-lock brakes. Here is a link to a supplier (with part photos) (Click Here) Labor about 2-3 hours.

Not getting brake fluid to rear calipers


Could be a multitude of possibilities. However, if you haven't checked these ideas yet, here are a few ideas......

Start with the easy stuff first like checking to see that you don't have a leak in the line to the rear tires. You will know because you will see it leaking, especially under pressure, when stepping on the brake pedal. Which leads us to the next possibility......

Your fluid level. As simple as making sure you have enough fluid in the master cylinder, especially if you have a split master cylinder, which has 2 separate reservoirs, one for the front brakes and one for the back brakes.

Then, if this doesn't work, your master cylinder itself may be plugged or otherwise obstructed, like maybe a crimp in the line out of the master cylinder. Good luck! If these don't help, write back and we'll try something else.

2007 Jetta keeps losing brake fluid. 2 dealerships have looked at it and no one has an answer. No evidence of leaking.


INFO:
This vehicle is NOT safe to operate.
The Brake fluid is leaking on to the back side of your floor board carpet OR it is filling up the Brake booster.

RECOMENDATION:
Replace brake master cylinder.

INSPECT:
1. To inspect pull up the carpet from behind the brake peddle you should see that paint is pealing off of the fire wall and you may even see this from under the hood under the master cylinder.
2. A little more difficult but it is possible that brake fluid is filling the brake vacuum booster and may require removal to see if it is. IF fluid is entering the booster it will need to be replaced.

are you talking about the brake master cylinder, leaking fluid down the fire wall in front of the drivers position? if so ,it is probably running down the inside under the carpet as well.. no matter where its from brake leaks need fixing straight away. it is probably the brake master cyl. that is leaking and it is not a big job to replace it "YOUDOIT"
