1985 Toyota pickup 22r non cali emissions ( Drives then dies no fuel in carb)
New fuel pump installed, New fuel filter. Went through all the hoses all clear checked electrical to carb good to go runs fine in driveway at idle. Drive for 10-20 min dies out won't start for 5-10 min drive for 3miles maybe dies again. Thought it may be pressure in tank tried with cap on and off no diff. What could possibly be the problem.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.

I don't think your engine is a 22R-E as the E denotes electronic fuel ejection. For 1980 it should be just a 22R. I would not suggest slapping on another carb without expecting more work than just hooking up the original vacuum lines. Some lines you could cap off but others would need the vacuum and rerouting. There is plenty of info in the following blog on removing smog devices and extra vacuum lines here: http://www.yotatech.com/f114/de-smogging-early-22r-205845/
There are also plenty of pictures and diagrams for your engine. Making a trip to your local junkyard might find you a 22R with a carb still attached but it's slim these days. I know this question is from January but if it's too late to help you than maybe it can help some one else.
Alright, i have a 1987 Toyota 4x4. it has a 22RE full injected motor..it was able to run, but it was running rich, and idling pretty eratic..and then now..it only starts up..and dies. after like 5seconds.
mcdevito75 here, I think you mean the acclerator pump in the carb, here"s how to check it, Operate the gas pedal linkage from the carb itself and at same time look into carb. see a straem of gas each timeyou operate the gas pedal linkage, if not check for fuel at the carb. You could also have a dirty gas filter or a problem with the ignition system, check for spark at plugs.
It sounds like the carb. float is set to high and /or the needle and seat has some dirt in it allowing to much fuel inside the carb.. This will allow to much fuel into the engine. It seems the carb could use a rebuild and dont forget to replace your fuel filter.I hope this helps.
