Question about Toyota Pickup

1 Answer

1985 toyota 4x4 pickup 22r non cali emissions. Had carb cleaned and rebuilt, runs good for hours parked in drive, can drive for up to 10-20 min just great. Then cuts out and dies no fuel in the window of the carb. Thought about vaporlock in the pump, new mech fuel pump still same. also took off fuel tank checked pickup tube no blockage, also new fuel filter blew into carb no restrictions. Seems like fuel float may be sticking. I was wandering if maybe something with vacuum hoses since all electrical to carb checks out fine please if you can help me with this it would be much apriciated, due to I love this truck and have alot of money and time into it.

I would appreciate you returning HERE to modify your rating from "thanks for trying" to a higher rating. The eperts here at Fixya are assigned a percentage in direct correlation to the ratings given. A "thanks for trying" rating greatly skews the average in a negative way. Your question was deferred to a make-specific expert.

    Your cooperation is appreciated.

I have a 5 speed Toyota 4x4 when u i put it in neutral i can push it forward but when i push it in reverse in locks up still in neutral what could it be help

are you sure it is first gear it is making when in 1. In park does the car lock up if you try to push it with the handbrake off. If not your problem is adjustment of the cable i.e. although the lever is in reverse the gearbox isn't.

22r Carb. misses at ide

Dripping fuel could indicate a badly adjusted float, bad needle and seat,or possibly to much fuel pressure off the pump,if your using a mechanical fuel pump make sure the return line to the gas tank isn't plugged,if your usining an electric fuel pump make sure you have a working pressure regulator,my personal opinion on remanufactred stock carbs isn't very high,if you can return the carb I would highly reccomend replacing it with a Weber 38 DGES,you can get a Toyota conversion kit for around the same cost as a remaned stock carb.

Need to change engines

If you have a 22r carbed then all 22r carbed engines from 1981-1995 will interchange. You may need to use sensor out of your old engine however. The 20r,22r,22re,22ret all have the same mounts and tranny bolt patterns. how ever there are lot of differences. you can swap from a 22r to a 22re but you must also swap the entire vehical wiring harness to do it right. if you have a 3.0L i would keep the same engine. some people have swap to the tacoma 3.6L but that is a expensive swap not exsactly bolt on so to say. If you have a 22re then stay with the 1986-1987 22re because the newer 22re use different computers, electronics ,sensors and more.. Same story with the 22ret. I hoped this helped.

1985 Toyota pickup 22r non cali emissions ( Drives then dies no fuel in carb)

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the rubber fuel lines being old and cracked. The hoses would warm up and fuel would squirt out of the cracks. I had to replace three fuel line hoses and it has been running great ever since. Good luck.
