SOURCE: battery not charging

Sounds like the cells in the battery have shorted. It's probably shot. Does the car run once its jump started? Does it continue to run after the cables are removed, if so your alternator is ok and its the battery. Hope that helps.

SOURCE: Check charging system

So you have a new alternator. I S IT CHARGING ? If the answer is yes , and the battery still dies, I would say there is a 12 volt drain in the electrical system. Hope this helps

1984 Olds 88 altenator is good battery good but charge light on and it won't stay charged

Well, the battery and the alternator are the two primary components. Either one of those is bad, or the wiring between them is faulty. You should be able to take it to your local autoparts store and have them check over the full charging system while it's in the car (for free).

How do you know the alternator and battery are good? Have they been tested? If they're new, sometimes you can get a bad alternator off the shelf.

I am having a problem with my battery light on my 2002 oldsmobile brandra

The warning light means the alternator is not charging the battery.
You would need to get the alternator and the circuits tested.

My asb light comes on when starting and stays on. Lights won't come on , power locks won't work, power windows won't work, radio won't work. All fuses are good and car runs fine.

Those are all really common symptoms of the alternator going bad on those cars. I would have it checked to make sure it's charging properly.

Make sure your cables at the battery are clean of corrosion. If everything is good here i would take the alternator out and have it tested.

Battery light stays on

The battery light indicates a problem with the charging system.

A quick test would be to disconnect the battery while the car it running, if it's not charging the car will shutoff.

TIP: most major auto parts stores offer free charging system testing.

Hope this helps.

The light will come on if the system is over charging. No system I know of charges at 18 volts. That is way too much. You need to have the alternator checked out. Most system charge at 14.5 to 15 volts at the most. You will burn out something major if not fixed. you can go by most auto part stores and they will check it out for free.

The lights and heater are draining the battery. I believe it is a short circuit. How do I fix this?

Is this happending while the car is being driven? If it is draining the battery while driving, then the problem would be the alternator not charging the battery. If the lights are staying on when the car is parked, then I would look for a faulty light switch.

Are the battery cables corroded or otherwise no making a good connection? Clean them with a cable end cleaning tool avail at any auto parts store for around $5.00 and try it again, I bet the that is the issue, also charge the battery and have it tested at Kragen, they do it for free.
